This position will be located in Spartanburg, SC. The Auriga Polymers Inc. Senior Research and Development Scientist is responsible for product research and development in support of strategic and overall Indorama Ventures objectives. The Senior R D Scientist position would be expected to be hands-on in driving product development efforts and grow to lead technical programs within the R D team. Responsibilities /
Job Requirements:
Works with technical, commercial, and engineering personnel to understand unmet customer and market needs Leads the polymer design process, rapidly progressing from concept to final design by leveraging chemistry and process fundamentals while ensuring efficient and robust technology scale-up from laboratory to pilot scale through production assets to arrive at an optimal solution to critical functional requirements Inspires and motivates all members of the R D team to contribute to continuous improvement Ensures efficient experimental designs, execution, and analysis to enable accelerated learning under the direction of the Global Head of R D and other leaders within the product management team Works cross-functionally to identify emerging technologies, groups engaged in novel technology activities, and opportunities in which to partner and leverage these concepts Supports knowledge capture and organizational proficiency expansion via effective data summaries, reports, and presentations Follows all policies of Corporate and Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) by consistently performing high quality work while minimizing waste generation and risk to self, personnel, and assets Education / Experience /
Skills:
Ph.
D. / M.S.
in organic or polymer chemistry, chemical engineering, or related field with a minimum of 5 years of experience in scientific and application research, with a demonstrated track record of leading and managing research programs and projects Proficiency in synthetic chemistry fundamentals; preferred – experience in catalysis, reactions, and mechanisms, particularly for step-growth and melt polymerizations Capacity to use structure-property relationships and material response behaviors to problem-solve Working knowledge of a variety of analytical techniques for polymer characterization; preferred examples include rheology, DSC, GC/LC, GPC, NMR Commitment to laboratory safety, ability to recognize and mitigate chemical and physical hazards of organic synthesis Competence in product development from conception to product using applications, surrogate, and product certification testing; preferred – conception to commercialization A record of innovative approaches, insights, and solutions Successful management of work and schedules to support overall program objectives Open-mindedness toward rapid learning and adaptation to latest insights and demands Capability in leveraging statistical tools and methods to answer technical questions Strong communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills Effective collaboration across functions and geographies A hands-on Scientist who leads by example, enabling the entire R D team to contribute to their full potential and grow
