Full Job Description Description Position Summary:
Oversees ophthalmic imaging projects within the laboratory. Monitors outcomes, develops, implements modifications, and provides reports to management. Supervises and oversees maintenance of lab equipment and orders and supervises lab supplies. Responsible for training research staff in the operation, maintenance, and care of ophthalmic imaging equipment. Manages and directs the operational activities of the Retinal Imaging area. Oversees clinic and research staff performing retinal imaging on patients and study participants. Ensures high quality clinical care, data collection, competent and responsible personnel management and cost efficient utilization of resources. Oversees and performs the administrative functions within the retinal imaging area and maintains the clinical and research databases. Collaborates with departmental faculty on the development of protocols utilizing retinal imaging equipment. Participates with faculty in the development of experimental imaging devices to facilitate their use and evaluation in human research protocols and animal model studies. Trains research and clinic staff members in the appropriate use and care of the imaging equipment. Ensures appropriate operation and maintenance of imaging equipment. Responsible for managing revenue producing activities of the clinic. Keeps up to date on latest imaging technologies and devices for retinal imaging in clinical care and research. Key Duties and Responsibilities Directs, coordinates, develops, administers and manages the overall operational activities for ophthalmic imaging in laboratory projects Oversees research staff that perform ophthalmic imaging Trains research staff in the operation, maintenance, and care of ophthalmic imaging equipment as indicated per various study protocols Administers the integration and compliance of new imaging equipment within the basic science and clinical research areas Coordinates the design and integration of databases for data collection as it relates to clinical research and research related operations within various study protocols Administers the purchasing, implementation, maintenance, and life cycle of imaging equipment for research applications Manages the upgrading of systems and software for research related equipment Ensures that research staff are adequately trained via the vendor after installation in the proper operation, maintenance, and care of ophthalmic imaging equipment Provides ongoing in-service education and training to research staff as it relates to equipment upgrades and system changes Manages the relationships between the imaging device vendors, pharmaceutical entities, and companies related to the development and progression of advanced technologies in ophthalmic imaging Supervises research staff in maintaining a consistent standard of quality in research related imaging and data capture Manages budget related items associated to clinical and basic science research imaging protocols Works with outside entities (Alabama Organ Center, Topcon, Heidelberg, etc.) in the coordination, training, and implementation of study related devices and services per various imaging protocols Works readily with Dr. Garner and staff in the incorporation and advancement of new technologies through efficient communication, planning, execution, monitoring, and completion of various projects Manages IRB, HIPPA, and regulatory requirements for studies as they relate to imaging Upholds best practices for all responsibilities and ensures a standard of high quality with a high ethical integrity Attends conferences and educational seminars for the continuing training and advancement of staff and faculty as it relates to imaging needs Administers, manages, recruits, collects data, and works with sponsors on multiple studies Co-authors any related manuscripts for scientific journals as aims and objectives are met through scientific discovery Develops protocols and physical prototypes as needed for experimental research projects Oversees new staff hires as related to developing new experimental research endeavors Perform other duties as assigned
Salary Range:
$57,940 – $90,000 Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Photography/Imaging and seven (7) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
