JOB SUMMARY

The Director of Clinical Research will oversee the clinical research program that will feature critical human studies in nutritional science, obesity, metabolomics and aerospace medicine. These clinical research studies will be integrated into complementary designated areas of the basic science research program. Additionally, the Director will assist clinical staff and manage the day to today operations of the 3,000 ft2 clinical research center. The director will also manage and oversee collaborative clinical trial studies both within ACHE as well as partnering physicians and staff at local and regional medical centers. The Clinical Research Center is housed within the 350,000 ft2 RIHWC and located on 65 acres. The Director of Clinical Research will report to the ACHE Vice President of Research and have access to collaborative research studies among the Arkansas College of Osteopathic Medicine, the School of Physical Therapy, and the School of Occupational Therapy.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Manage clinical trial procedures and assignments, including participant screenings, orientations, biomedical intervention sessions, and follow-up visits.
Supervise participant behavior changes and session interventions to ensure participant safety and compliance with human research study protocols.
Ensure accurate and concise coordination of study duties and responsibilities of program managers, specialists, and/or other designees.
Communicate with other members of the Clinical Research Unit management team to ensure effective and efficient operation and continuity of clinical research services.
Meet regularly with the clinic staff and other research program directors to provide status reports of the operation of the CRC; ensure effective communication regarding study completion, resource utilization, study status, and quality improvement results.
Assist the Vice President of Research in the development of an annual budget for the Clinical Research Center.
Work with the financial manager team and Office of Grants to resolve issues associated with charges and study specific financial matters including but not limited to research grant funding mechanisms and insurance reimbursements.
Work with the Vice President of Research in the preparation and discussion of annual performance evaluations with employees directly answering to the Director of the Clinical Research Center.
Other duties as assigned by the Vice-President of Research or their designee.

QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS

Education and Experience Minimum Qualifications (Needed to do the job) Master’s degree or higher in a biomedical science or biomedical related field.
Three or more years of experience in clinical research, basic research, or clinical trial related research.
Experience in program management and performance of basic research assessments such as informed consent, anthropometric measures, and source documentation.
Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to effectively work with clients in a non-judgmental approach.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and the ability to learn and utilize new computer programs/software. Preferred Qualifications PhD, MD, DO, NP, PA preferred.
Experience in supervising the development of clinical study-related documents (e.g., PRT, IRB, CSR, MMP, SMP, and regulatory documents)
Strong and diverse scientific expertise and/or strong medical background in disease/therapeutic areas or clinical safety assessments,
Knowledge of clinical development-related regulations guidelines, and requirements for the successful conduct of clinical research studies.
Basic working knowledge of clinical databases, statistics, and pharmacokinetics.
Attention to detail and ability to process and prioritize complex information and multiple tasks and ability as a hands-off style manager. Required knowledge, skills, and abilities
Demonstrate proficiency in computer skills, i.e. Microsoft Office.
Display professionalism for the college in all communication and interaction.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and privacy.
Ability to prioritize and organize numerous and varied assignments.

May be required to transport oneself to other campus offices, conference rooms, and on occasion, to off-campus sites to attend meetings, conferences, workshops, seminars, etc.
May require significant travel or work away from campus.
Requires attendance at events representing ACHE both within as well as outside of the college setting.
Frequently required to work at a desk, conference table or in meetings of various configurations.
Frequently required to see for purposes of reading matter.
Frequently required to hear and understand speech at normal levels.
Occasionally required to lift items in a normal office environment.
