Job Description

Laboratory Analyst Trainee (Environmental) 3.7 3.7 out of 5 stars Fort Lauderdale, FL 33309 One of Florida oldest and longest operating environmental laboratories is looking to fill a position as a full-time laboratory assistant for our semi volatiles department (SVOC). The successful candidate will utilize advanced instrumentation, including GC-MS, will report data, and will meet high standards for quality control parameters. Florida Spectrum Environmental Laboratory has been in business in Florida since 1974 and has 5 locations in Florida and Georgia. The position is open for the Fort Lauderdale, FL location.

Responsibilities:

Perform all duties associated with the preparation and analysis of samples (air, water, or soil) for SVOC. Document and maintain sample integrity throughout the extraction process Follow methodologies and SOP’s as required Document activities and report results in a concise and accurate manner Perform all work within established quality control parameters and within specified turnaround times Assist in laboratory operations; including but not limited to ordering supplies, instruments and other necessary equipment; storage of samples and other temperature sensitive items. Ensures that client test procedures are followed; that worksheets are current; data is entered correctly and that calculations are accurate Ensure problems with samples are reported and/or documented as required Must be able to initiate corrective action without prompting and assist co-workers whenever necessary in order to meet deadlines Ensures that hazardous materials are properly handled and disposed Maintain clean and organized laboratory equipment, glassware and supplies Familiar with Gas Chromatography and or Gas Chromatography/ MS. Other duties as assigned by the department supervisor

Skills:

Excellent verbal and written communication skills required Intermediate computer skills Ability to learn laboratory information systems (LIMS) Able to handle simple math calculations, and have strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and form conclusions. Ability to follow specific rules and patterns for analysis and equipment setup. Flexibility to work in a fast-paced productive environment, and overtime if needed. Ability to organize, prioritize, multi-task, and adapt to changing priorities

Experience:

College chemistry coursework and/or a Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, chemistry, or biology. Two or more years preferred work experience in a laboratory setting, especially SVOC analysis.
