Incumbents are responsible for supervising the work activities. Supervises the work activities of Environmental, Refuse, Grounds and/or Exterminating personnel to ensure clean, orderly and attractive conditions in the hospital. Ensures that policies and procedures governing the operation of Environmental Services are followed. Supervision is received from an environmental supervisor who determines effectiveness of the unit by personal observation. Review of reports, public reaction to services rendered and personal conferences. Responsibilities Interprets and transmits policy directive and recommends improvements in procedures. Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field in order to enhance expertise. Ensures that all employees assigned to his/her work group attend in-service training classes on a regular basis. Provides all environmental supplies and equipment needed for employees to accomplish required work. Maintains communication and acts as a liaison between medical staff, nursing and support services to resolve any situation that may occur or to prevent problems from occurring. Schedules rounds in assigned work areas to inspect and evaluate the physical condition of the hospital, make sure unit is functioning effectively and efficiently, and determine that instructions are followed and safety rules are observed. Assists in preparation of work and vacation schedules for environmental staff, and recommends personnel actions to the supervisor. Provides support as environmental worker when necessary. Instructs and trains employees under supervision in the use of equipment and cleaning methods. Demonstrates behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise). Performs all other related job duties as assigned. Experience Generally requires 5 to 7 years of related experience. Supervisory experience is required. Education High school diploma is required. Skill Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work accurately while meeting multiple deadlines. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form. Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with critical thinking and professional composure. Ability to understand and follow instructions. Ability to exercise sound and independent judgment. Knowledge and skill in use of job appropriate technology and software applications. Credentials Valid license or certification is required as needed, based on the job or specialty. Unit Specific Credential Working Conditions Physical Requirements – Job function is sedentary in nature and requires sitting for extended periods of time. Function may require frequent standing or walking. Must be able to lift or carry objects weighing up to 20 pounds. Jobs in this group are required to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as: extended use of computers, preparing and analyzing data and analytics, and other components of a typical office environment.
