Environmental Specialist City of Miami Beach, FL – 4.3 Miami Beach, FL Job Details Full-time $4,674.22 – $7,798.72 a month 2 hours ago Qualifications Environmental law Mid-level Driver’s License Bachelor’s degree Full Job Description Nature of Work Performs professional work involved with planning, executing and coordinating activities relative to environmental programs and compliance and evaluating environmental issues as they relate to City facilities, structures and real estate to ensure compliance with Federal, State and Local regulations. Illustrative Examples of Essential Duties Monitors proposed Environmental Legislation to ensure timely compliance with new regulations Coordinates established environmental city programs and standards including but not limited to water quality, beaches and dunes, contaminated sites, storage tanks, pollution prevention and construction oversight Conducts field inspections, emergency and monthly water quality testing, problem analysis, and proposes solutions regarding environmental impact of existing and proposed operations and facilities Compiles and analyzes data on site conditions, water quality, beaches and dunes, contaminated sites, storage tanks, soil and vegetation, drainage, pollution problems, methods of control and testing Reviews compliance schedules and inspection reports to ensure compliance with environmental agency regulations Interfaces with government, community, industrial, engineering, architectural, scientific enforcement, civil defense, private and other organizations and individuals to analyze, develop, implement, enforce, interpret, and inform others regarding environmental laws, programs and procedures Inspects construction work in progress to control negative environmental impact Responds to environmental complaints Coordinates environmental projects and prepare progress and feasibility reports documents to ensure coordination of efforts and timely submission of information Performs related work as required Minimum Requirements

REQUIRED

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in the Environmental Sciences or related field Experience in coordinating of Environmental projects and activities and knowledge of environmental regulations, testing and problem resolution with projects and during site inspections Experience can substitute for education on a year-for-year basis Possession of a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Florida, by the time of employment, for the type of vehicle or equipment operated with an acceptable driving record. Flexible hours including occasional weekends and holidays

DESIRED:

Additional training, seminars and/or short courses in the environmental field and licenses or certificates Physical Requirements Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to, word processor, calculator, copier, and fax machine The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, or walking. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects and distinguishes between shades of color The work is typically performed in an office and outdoors. The employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, and cold or inclement weather Drive an automobile Perform on-site inspections at locations, which may not be accessible to the physically handicapped Ability to do significant walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, and stooping common during inspections and observations For all positions: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with elected officials, coworkers, the press the general public and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability, political affiliation, gender identity or sexual orientation. Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of all city ethics and conflicts of interest policies. Strong understanding of ethical behavior is required. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance. Performs related work as required Reports to work as directed during an emergency as an essential employee of the City of Miami Beach For all technical, professional, supervisory and managerial positions: Ability to develop innovative and creative solutions to issues consistent with the City’s strategic plan.
