Job Summary Langan is seeking a Senior Staff Environmental Scientist, Geologist or Engineer to join its collaborative team in Parsippany, NJ and/or New York City. This individual will serve a key function in providing site exploration activities, including soil borings and monitoring well installations; conducting field tests; collecting field data and samples; monitoring construction sites; and compiling data and preparing reports. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work on diverse projects, solve problems and overcome challenges in restoring the environment and returning blighted properties to productive re-use while protecting and enhancing the environment. Job Responsibilities
- Review and interpret environmental, geological, and historical records to support environmental due diligence;
- Conduct file reviews, site reconnaissance, and document searches;
- Plan, coordinate, and execute field investigations by logging borings, collecting and managing samples, performing field tests, and collecting and recording field data;
- Interact in a professional manner with client and subcontractor representatives in close collaboration with supervisor, including representing Langan on field sites and during field meetings;
- Prepare, manage and review standard logs and field forms documenting field investigations (drilling logs, field investigation forms, chain of custody logs) and remedial activities (air monitoring data tracking, daily reports and site maps);
- Observe complex remediation and construction activities, manage subcontractors, and monitor conformance with construction documents, remedial work plans, and health and safety plans;
- Identify and communicate with supervisor on problems encountered and implement solutions to both routine and complex field problems and accurately document outcomes;
- Support the preparation and modification of various environmental engineering documents including investigation and remedial action reports, specifications, engineering plans, health and safety plans, cost estimates and designs for projects;
- Perform and manage tasks within specific budgets and schedules;
- Supervise or coordinate the work of staff personnel, interns and others who assist in specific assignments as needed;
- Participate in field work regularly and work during evenings and/or periodically during weekends, as needed by project schedule;
- Train and mentor junior team members;
- Cross-train staff from other disciplines supporting environmental projects;
- Cross-train to learn the roles of other disciplines; and
- Perform other duties as requested. Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering with an environmental concentration, Environmental Science, Geology or related technical field;
- 4+ years of work-related experience coordinating and conducting Phase I, II, and III environmental site assessment including drilling observation, sampling, well installation, construction/remediation oversight;
- Experience implementing work plans for projects regulated by the New York City Office of Environmental Remediation and New York State Department or Environmental Conservation;
- Familiarity with the NJDEP Field Sampling Procedures Manual;
- Hazwoper training, maintenance of annual physical and respirator fit test, and annual 8-hr. Hazwoper re-certification;
