POSITION

The Department of Transportation is seeking to hire an Environmental Planner 2 to play a crucial role in supporting all aspects of environmental documentation, compliance, and permitting. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will undertake critical responsibilities that involve assessing the environmental impacts of both proposed and existing transportation facilities. This includes evaluating effects on landforms, water quality, land use, cultural resources, socio-economic factors, scenic rivers, wetlands, and endangered species, as well as analyzing erosion, sedimentation, air quality, and noise levels. You will also perform environmental analyses and prepare or review technical reports concerning hazardous waste, wetland investigations, and endangered species. Fieldwork is a significant aspect of the role, requiring wetland identification, species surveys, and construction site evaluations. Strong communication skills will be essential as you collaborate with design, construction, and maintenance teams to address challenges and contribute to management decisions by analyzing project alternatives aimed at reducing environmental impacts and expediting the clearance process. Additionally, you will assist in formulating environmental mitigation strategies and monitoring commitments through the Environmental Commitments and Mitigation Tracking System (ECMTS). Work Schedule and Additional Information:

Full-time employment
Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday – Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.

Telework:

You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, upon completion of probationary period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

Five years of progressive professional experience in local, regional, or state environmental planning; or
Two years of experience as an Environmental Planner 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
A Master’s degree in planning or one of the environmental sciences and two years of progressive professional environmental planning experience; or
Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
