A DAY IN THE LIFE
Our Knoxville, TN office is looking for a Staff Geologist. In this role, a successful candidate will assist with work on a variety of geological/scientific projects under direct supervision of an experienced professional throughout Tennessee and across other US locations. The ideal candidate will have experience performing multi-media sampling in accordance with US EPA protocols, supervising drilling investigations, environmental site assessments, and evaluating environmental sampling data. Field work and some travel required. Excellent writing and communication skills are necessary to be successful in this position. As a key member of the Environmental Standards team, this role will be responsible for a full range of activities including: Completes scientific analysis under direct supervision. Assists in developing project document deliverable outlines and layouts, technical writing of reports, data interpretation, permits, and development of graphical presentations in a logical and professional manner. Conducts field inspections, reconnaissance, and field activities per regulatory standards as directed. Develops and strengthens technical capabilities within a selected area of technical expertise. Becomes proficient in field sampling, inspections, data collection, QA/QC of data results, data reporting, synthesis and analysis. Becomes knowledgeable of regulatory standards in area of technical background or technical responsibility. Coordinates with technical staff as necessary. Assists in client contact and communication pertaining to specific projects as necessary. Tracks project hours and utilizes time effectively to complete assigned tasks within assigned timeframe(s). Communicates with Project Manager when potential issues are foreseen, or potential issues arise that may inhibit performing tasks within the allotted schedule and budget. Maintains confidentiality at all times. Exercises safe work practices by following all Company safety rules and OSHA regulations, including attendance at all required safety training programs. Participates in the company’s continuous improvement programs and provides support to team efforts. Keeps up-to-date and current on industry trends by completing formal training, reviews professional publications, and attends professional workshops. Perform other duties as assigned.
YOUR EXPERTISE AND SKILLS
To perform this job successfully, individuals must be able to perform each duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science (preferably Geology) or related science field. 1-3 years of experience is preferred. Valid driver’s license, ability to travel and obtain security clearance at federal installations. Knowledge of computer aided software (Microsoft Suite, Google Suite, AutoCAD, ArcGIS, etc.). Organizational skills and attention to detail. This position can be physically demanding and will require work in various working environments/conditions which requires that an individual be physically capable of canvassing large project areas by foot on various terrain and potentially in inclement weather. Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds. Travel may be required.
