Description

Responsible for establishing mission, vision, planning, direction, assessment and leadership for effective infection prevention and control programs for hospitals and outpatient services throughout BH in areas of surveillance, analysis, reporting, prevention and control of infections including related regulatory compliance, accreditation standard compliance and quality and performance improvement.
Qualifications
Requires BS in Medical Technology OR BSN degree with Microbiology experience in epidemiology.
Must have at least five years of current experience in the hospital setting.
Master’s degree preferred.
Knowledge of basic principles of epidemiology, microbiology and the entire disease process including colonization, active infection, carrier states modes of transmission, etc.
Knowledge of characteristics of various infectious organisms and the proper approach to prevent and or minimize the transmission of disease.
Knowledge of CDC, OSHA, and state, federal guidelines and regulations.
Knowledge data analysis and statistical methods.
Knowledge of sterilization, disinfecting, asepsis and pertinent environmental controls.
Must have analytical skills to prioritize and strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with patients, families, coworkers, physicians, and operational leaders.
Must be self directed and highly motivated with problem solving abilities.
Dependable, able to function in stressful situations.
High degree of integrity to maintain confidentiality of both patients and employee.
Must be proficient with Word, Excel, and other Microsoft applications.
Must possess advanced PC skills for the purpose of data aggregation and report writing to include graphs and other supportive documentation.
Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Possesses broad knowledge of hospital systems and standards of care.
Possesses a working knowledge of team development, functions and group dynamics and adult learning principles.
Has proven leadership skills with strengths in organizational development and the capacity to handle diverse activities in a fast paced environment.
Medical Lab Technologist (MLT) or and Basic Life Support (BLS) required license.
American Society of Clinical Pathologist Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) required as applicable.
Certification in Infection Prevention and Control (CIC) required or obtained within one year in position.
