Job Summary and Qualifications
Position Summary:
Provides an effective hospital-wide program for the surveillance, prevention, and control of infection. Reports to the Director of Infection Prevention.
Implements programs to protect healthcare workers, patients, visitors, and others in the healthcare environment
Promotes compliance with regulations, guidelines, and accreditation requirements.
Acquires and maintains current knowledge and advances education, knowledge, and skills as they relate to Infection Prevention and Control, NHSN public reporting, and performance improvement.
Evaluates quality of patient care and patient outcomes as they relate to healthcare associated infections and infection control/prevention
Develops and supports a process to facilitate 100% compliance with return of physician surveillance queries
Collects, prepares, and analyzes healthcare-associated infection data and makes recommendations to the Infection Prevention Director for actions.
Prepares Infection Control reports for QI and other committee meetings.
Responsible for the agenda/minutes, Infection Prevention reports, and introduction of business at the Infection Prevention Committee meetings
Monitors infection control practices related to employee, medical staff, allied professional (AP) staff, and dependent health practitioners (DHP) compliance; identifies barriers to compliance.
Serves as a resource for all departments and personnel
Participates in the development and revision of the Infection Control Plan and policies and procedures. Works collaboratively with all hospital departments to develop, maintain, revise, and enforce infection prevention policies and procedures.
Conducts trend investigations and initiates control measures.
Reports information and infection data required by law as directed by the Director of Infection Prevention.
Initiates follow up on employee/medical staff/AP/DHP patient exposures to communicable diseases.
Participates in performance improvement activities. Supports quality program initiatives.
Maintains and improves skills and knowledge to enhance patient care and professional
Conducts daily unit rounding for isolation, PPE, hand hygiene, Foley/Central Line necessity and maintenance, and environmental infection prevention opportunities.
Maintains daily Huddle Report
Conducts Infection Prevention tracers on units/departments as directed by the Director of Infection Prevention.
Completes RCAs as assigned for healthcare-acquired infections.
Promotes compliance with APIC, OSHA, and CDC standards, as well as other regulatory/professional bodies as pertains to Infection Prevention and Control.
Compiles reports for the Quality Improvement Committee, Medical Executive Committee, and Governing body as needed for Administration at the direction of the Director of Infection Prevention.
Works collaboratively with the Director of Plant Operations to ensure patient and staff safety during construction projects by minimizing potential exposure.
Participates and supports community education.
Performs other duties as assigned and checks in with Director of Infection Prevention daily for priority updates.
Completes work within appropriate timeframe.
Demonstrates ability to set priorities.
What qualifications you will need:
Graduation from an accredited school of Nursing, Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Master’s degree in Public Health or Epidemiology.
RN:
FL RN license or appropriate compact licensure
Certification in Infection Prevention and Control preferred or eligible to certify in Infection Prevention within two years of hire.
RN:
One year Infection Control and three years clinical nursing experience preferred. Experience in acute care preferred. Non RN, two years of acute care hospital and Infection Control experience is preferred. HCA Florida Ocala Hospital is a 323-bed facility. We are located in the heart of Ocala, Florida.
