  • Job Summary and Qualifications
  • The Infection Preventionist is responsible for comprehensive surveillance activities, applying an epidemiological approach to identification of infection prevention issues that include chart review, updating of databases and preparation of summary reports and provides clinical support to performance improvement operations, patient care delivery and Medical Directors.

Assists in the dissemination of results/findings and maintains communication patterns with staff and physicians. Provides a professional consulting role and education and counseling for patients/families, staff and physicians. This position is intended to help support operational function, efficiency, quality and to improve patient outcomes. The Infection Preventionist consistently demonstrates behaviors that model the core values and the Hospital’s mission statement and maintains proficiency in job and age related competencies. Acts as manager of the Infection Prevention Department by serving as a specialist trained in hospital epidemiology. Functions as a resource consultant and educator for patients, physicians, PWH staff and community. Directly coordinates and monitors infection control for the hospital and its outpatient departments in accordance with professional and regulatory standards. Maintains the standards of nursing care as recommended by the Nursing Department’s philosophy and objectives. Projects an image of professionalism in communication, appearance and conduct. Supports the PI Departments mission. Participates in the continuous quality improvement process. Maintains a working knowledge of departmental standard operating procedures. This knowledge may include the use of specialized instrumentation, software, Quality Control requirements and preventive maintenance. Performs other duties as assigned.

  • What qualifications you will need:
  • + Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing, Epidemiology or Public Health + Special Training in surveillance, prevention, and control of nosocomial infections + Minimum of 2 years experience in infection control and prevention and three years of clinical experience in + Strong analytical, organizational, interpersonal, leadership, and customer service skills + Knowledge of hospital operations + Excellent communication skills HCA Florida Kendall Hospital is located in west Miami-Dade County.
