Job Description:
The Infection Preventionist performs under the directsupervision of the Director of Quality Management. The primaryresponsibility is to assure that policies and procedures aredeveloped and implemented to prevent and control infections. TheInfection Preventionist has the oversight authority for cooperatingwith departments in performance improvement activities. Otherresponsibilities include surveillance, analysis, reporting, andrecording as well as setting standards and evaluating compliancefor practices that are associated with the prevention and controlof healthcare-associated infections. Collaborates with clinical andnon-clinical leaders and managers to implement prevention andcontrol measures. Employs organizational strategies in a balancedapproach that produces meaningful contributions to each element ofthe Formula for Success. Requires the promotion and adherence tothe organization’s established Compliance Program and Standards ofConduct. Demonstrates knowledge and skills to appropriatelycommunicate and interact with the patients, families, and visitorsof all age groups while being sensitive to their cultural andreligious beliefs. Performs other duties as assigned by the QMDirector.

- Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of current regulatorystandards and requirements.
- Demonstrates ability to analyze IP data and identifyimprovement opportunities.
- Demonstrates ability to conduct compliance rounds to monitorcompliance and provide feedback to managers.
- Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively with managersand staff.
Qualifications:
Education/Skills Associate degree or Bachelor degree in nursing, or Bachelor degreein medical laboratory science required. Graduate of a recognizednon-online RN program required for nurses.
Work Experience:
An individual with previous experience in the area of infectionsurveillance, prevention, and control is preferred. This personshould possess a broad knowledge base and/or job experience inareas related to the application of epidemiological principles andinfectious disease, concepts of sterilization, disinfection,sanitation, and adult education principles and practices related topatient care. Effective decision-making and communication skillsare required. Minimum of two years clinical experience in an acutecare hospital with two months of orientation to the position. - Current License with the MS State Board of Nursing or BSMT(ASCP) or equivalent
