Additionally, the system provides a wide range of healthcare services, such as Reading Hospital Rehabilitation at Wyomissing, home healthcare via Tower Health at Home, TowerDirect ambulance and emergency response, Tower Health Medical Group, Tower Health Providers (a clinically integrated network), and Tower Health Urgent Care facilities across its service area. The System Director of Epidemiology and Infection Prevention (IP) is responsible for all activities of Epidemiology and Infection and Prevention for Tower Health. Reports directly to the Tower Health Vice President of Nursing Clinical Practice, Education and the Center for Patient Safety. Trained in epidemiology and infection prevention principles and Certified in Infection Control (CIC). Responsible for coordinating the system’s development/implementation for organizational surveillance, analysis and improvement, reporting of health care acquired infections, education of employees about infection prevention; and assisting with the development of health system policies and procedures that meet accreditation, CMS federal guidelines, OSHA, State Public Health and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Quality agencies, patient safety initiatives, compliance with accrediting and regulatory agencies and institutes infection prevention measure to protect patients staff and visitors. Has an advanced knowledgeable in the principles of surveillance, infection prevention and control practices, hand hygiene, disinfection and sterilization, infectious diseases, disease/organism transmission, emerging diseases, electronic technologies and regulations to maintain compliance with federal, state, and local standards, performs surveillance, analysis and reporting of infections and corresponding data to influence improvement in healthcare associated infections and infection prevention activities. Partners with the Infectious Disease medical designee for the System and manages the Infection Prevention Department members. Oversees the leads at each entity to support an integrated standardized Infection Prevention plan, program and objectives. Serves as a member of organizational Department Head group, Patient Care, Quality Council, and works closely with System Administration Leadership, hospital departments and committees to carry out all functions incorporated into the Infection Prevention Program to influence improvement in healthcare associated infections and infection prevention activities.
