Job Summary and Qualifications PositionSummary:

Under the direction of the CMO and CNO, the InfectionPreventionist is responsible for the delivery of quality patientcare by the prevention of hospital acquired infections throughstaff and patient education, oversight of hospital practices asrelated to infection prevention and ongoing surveillance. Job mayinclude direct supervision of students at the discretion of thearea supervisor. Employee must have the same licensure or havecompleted the same training to satisfy the requirements of thediscipline of the student. Direct supervision means the primarycaregiver is readily available to the student throughout the shift.

Position Requirements:

Licensure/Certification/Registration:

1.Current license as a Registered Nurse to practice in the State ofSouth Carolina. 2. BLS Certified b)

Education:

1. Must havecompleted a post-secondary degree in a health-related fieldincluding but not limited to: Nursing c)

Experience:

1. Must haveexperience in clinical nursing d) Special qualifications: 1. Mustremain familiar with current regulatory, accreditation andprofessional agencies with regard to Infection Prevention andControl 2. Must maintain membership in Association for Professionalin Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) 3. Must have a workingknowledge of epidemiological principles and infectious disease asit applies to Infection Prevention and Control 4. Must be computerliterate and able to produce reports using basic computer programs5. Must have the ability to interact effectively with all levels ofhealthcare personnel, both internal and external 6. Must be able toenvision and implement effective strategies for the cost-effectiveprevention of transmissible infections 7. Must provide guidance andoversight in the Health System’s practices for sterilization,sanitation and disinfection.
