R D Associate 4.7 4.7 out of 5 stars Freeport, NY 11520 R D Associate – We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive R D Associate to join our dynamic Research & Development team. The ideal candidate will assist the test kitchen and sample team in developing and improving food products and processes. This role requires a strong foundation in baking or food science, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced test kitchen and production facility. The R D Associate reports to the R D Manager and is based in Freeport, NY where both the Test Kitchen and Sample Storage are located. The R D Associate will move between the two locations daily to provide support to both the Sample Team and Test Kitchen Team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the development, testing, and evaluation of new bakery items, ingredients, and formulations.
- Support the preparation and execution and documentation of bench samples.
- Maintain and update internal databases, project trackers, and R D records.
- Requisition raw ingredients from the Production Floor and Warehouse to be used in the Test Kitchen. Complete ingredient transfers in the ERP system to accurately maintain inventory.
- Help organize sensory evaluations and product tastings, compile feedback, and document outcomes.
- Interact with vendors to vet, order, receive, and track raw materials and supplies needed for R D projects.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Quality Assurance, Production, and Marketing.
- Prepare and label samples for internal and customer presentations. Assist with packing, shipping and logging samples in ERP system.
- Follow all company policies and procedures related to food safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.
- Must be computer proficient.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Nutrition, Culinary or a related field.
- Basic understanding of food processing and ingredient functionality.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high-quality standards.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and project timelines.
Work Environment:
Test Kitchen, Production facility, Warehouse, and Office environments. May require standing for extended periods, lifting up to 50 lbs, and exposure to food allergens and cold temperature environments.
Job Type:
Full-time Pay:
$65,000.00 – $70,000.00 per year
