GEI’s Knoxville Branch has an immediate opportunity for an entry-level Geotechnical Engineering, Geological Engineering, or Engineering Geologist professional. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a project team providing geotechnical, geostructural, and construction quality oversight services to local, regional, and nationwide GEI clients. Your role as an entry-level geotechnical professional is to work on small-scale and large-scale projects, and as a team member under the supervision of a senior engineer. You will perform a variety of project tasks related to geotechnical engineering and construction quality assurance oversight and testing in support of power, infrastructure, transportation, and dam projects that will include field work, analyses, design, coordination of project activities, and client interaction. Essential Responsibilities & Duties Perform field work related to geotechnical explorations and/or construction related projects Perform daily and weekly field reporting in support of project activities Effectively communicate with Senior Engineer or Project Manager and other project team members Interface with clients for assigned projects, effectively communicate with clients and their subcontractors, and be responsive to their requests Assist Senior Engineer or Project Manager in preparation and review of boring logs, lab assignments, calculations, drawings, specifications, and reports Provide oversight of subcontractors, such as drillers and utility locators Assist in preparation of Health and Safety Plans and Quality Plans Minimum Qualifications A general understanding of geotechnical engineering principles and analysis methods Field experience with geotechnical drill rig and construction monitoring/oversight/testing is preferred, or willingness to be trained Willingness to work 50 to 75 percent of working hours in the field in support of project activities Availability to work out of town and overtime Ability to interpret sketches, engineering drawings, and other similar material Familiarity and experience in geotechnical laboratory test methods Familiarity with geologic formations in the Tennessee Physiographic Regions Basic experience in Microsoft Office, and familiarity with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Bluebeam Revu, GeoStudio, and gINT is preferred, or willingness to be trained. Strong attention to detail with good analytical and judgment capabilities Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment Excellent communication skills, written and verbal Basic experience in geophysics techniques is preferred, or a willingness to be trained Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geological Engineering, or Engineering Geology. FE/EIT certification preferred, but not required Minimum of 0-5 years project experience We are GEI.
