Full Job Description Regulatory Hydrologist I or II Bureau of Water Use Regulation Job Summary:

This is professional work reviewing and processing consumptive use permit applications and conducting compliance.

Job duties include:

Reviews and processes consumptive use permit applications including: conducts pre-application meetings; reviews consumptive use permit applications for completeness and accuracy; supports environmental resource permit staff; assists applicants in all phases of the application process; coordinates review with other staff (groundwater modelers, environmental reviewers, agricultural team, water supply planners); drafts permit related correspondence and technical staff reports; and enters permit related data into the E-Reg system. Conducts water use permit compliance and enforcement action on permit conditions. Provides project oversight to consumptive use permitting and assists with complicated compliance projects. Attends meetings; participates in special projects such as software and process enhancements; participates in and/or leads charter groups; participates in studies and investigations; writes reports; and coordinates with other staff on data collection tasks. Coordinates with water supply planning staff, permitted water users, and the public to help integrate regulatory and planning efforts and better implement water supply plan components. Works directly with and provides assistance to the public on water use regulatory-related matters.

Minimum Qualifications:

Regulatory Hydrologist I requires a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in geology, hydrology, engineering or related field. Regulatory Hydrologist II requires a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in geology, hydrology, engineering or related field and one-year professional experience in geology, hydrology, or related field. Professional experience as described above can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.

Physical Requirements/Working Environment:

A combination of conducting regular field/site visits and office work sitting at a desk and operating a personal computer to produce work products.

Periodic field visits:

Applicant must have ability to endure outdoor environments in uncomfortable temperatures, inclement weather, and remote locations.

Licenses:

Requires a valid Florida driver license.

Travel:

Requires travel to attend off-site meetings, sometimes outside of normal business hours including overnight. Ability to drive oneself to and from meetings.

Regulatory Hydrologist I:

$45,864.00 – $57,324.80

Regulatory Hydrologist II:

$52,520.00 – 65,644.80 Starting salary is based on qualifications and experience.
