This academic, leadership position offers a unique opportunity in a renowned academic setting with a rich history in infectious diseases research and impact on public health. The Chief of the Section of Infectious Diseases reports to the Chair of John W. Deming Department of Medicine. Tulane School of Medicine (SoM) was founded in 1834, in part to respond to Yellow Fever epidemic sweeping the young country. Today, Tulane SoM is seeking accomplished and experienced candidates to consider the role of Chief of the Section of Infectious Diseases in the John W. Deming Department of Medicine. The new leader will build upon Tulane’s long-standing history of distinction in Infectious Diseases, leverage its current leadership in research and pandemic preparedness and contribute to an exciting, new future for the Section and our surrounding community. Section of Infectious Disease Summary Inpatient/Outpatient Care – Main Teaching Hospitals include East Jefferson General Hospital in Metairie; University Medical Center New Orleans; Southeast Louisiana Veterans Health Care System – both in downtown; and two (2) Ryan White Funded HIV Clinics ACGME-accredited ID Fellowship Training Program Research portfolio spans a broad-based community both with local focus and global reach. Scope includes

COVID-19

vaccine trials to HIV therapeutic trials to prevention, diagnosis and treatment of Dengue, Zika and many vector-borne diseases. Significant Research Collaborations Tulane University National Primate Center (TNPRC) 1 of 7 NIH-funded primate research centers with a prominent track record in infectious disease research TNPRC administratively part of Tulane Health Sciences Center; School of Medicine; School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine School of Medicine, Department Microbiology and Immunology Ranked 33 rd out 96 Departments in US based on FY23 Blue Ridge data. Faculty interests and research programs range from studies of genetic of bacteria, modifications of bacterial and viral genomes, development of vaccines and immunotherapeutics . School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine Prestigious history and internationally recognized leaders in the field of research and education in tuberculosis, vector-borne and other tropical infectious diseases. Faculty conduct operational, population-based and basic laboratory research in more than 10 African and American countries Offer study program for ID Fellows that completes requirements for American Society of Tropical Medicine Certificate of Knowledge in Clinical Tropical Medicine and Travelers Health Exam. Other fellowships include NIH Fogarty International Center Global Health Program for Fellows and Scholars. Tulane’s Center for Translational Research in Infection and Immunology Core mission is to conduct transformative research and discovery in tissue infection and inflammation ultimately reducing disease burden and mortality in patients. Center will serve as a nidus for training in mucosal immunology and genomics to understand host resistant mechanisms to disease. Established Facilities inluding Biosafety Level 3 Laboratories Tulane University has multiple biosafety levels 3 (BSL-3) facilities;

Core Facility and a Regional Biocontainment Laboratory (RBL).

Leadership and Administration Clinical Excellence Research and Innovation Education and Training Community Engagement The successful candidate will continue Tulane’s legacy of excellence in Infectious Diseases, capitalize on its leadership in research and pandemic preparedness, and contribute to the growth and development of the Section and the surrounding Community.

Qualifications:

MD or DO with board certification in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases. Eligibility for medical licensure in Louisiana. Minimum 10 years of clinical experience in Infectious Diseases. Academic qualifications for an Associate or Full Professor at Tulane University. Track record in leadership, research, and scholarly publications.
