Job Summary:
This position isaccountable to perform laboratory procedures and evaluations inorder to assist physicians in diagnosis and to provide qualitypatient care. The incumbent in this position will support themission, vision, values and strategic initiatives of MaryWashington Healthcare and must demonstrate a commitment to qualityservice to patients, physicians, the public and co-workers.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
Perform accurate routineand specialized laboratory testing in accordance with establishedprocedures including tests requiring complex steps, conclusions,evaluations or value judgments. Perform quality control oninstruments, equipment, reagents and instrument maintenance inorder to maintain high quality laboratory service and in accordancewith all regulatory requirements. Evaluate abnormal test resultsand resolve instrument problems to ensure validity of reportedresults in accordance with departmental and regulatory guidelines.
Enter test results in laboratory computer system accurately andpromptly to ensure expected turn-around times. Perform proficiencytesting on both external and internal specimens in order tomaintain adherence to all regulatory requirements. In aprofessional manner, interface with physicians, hospitaldepartments and other professionals regarding test results,concerns, and analyses. Assist department supervisor withevaluation of new instrumentation and procedures to maintainstate-of-the-art technology. Assist with implementation of trainingand orientation programs for new Associates, as well as ensure owncompetencies by participating in all educational in-services andmonthly proficiency testing. Monitor equipment and supplies inorder to maintain adequate inventory levels to ensure continuousoperation. Collect and label blood specimens for the laboratory incompliance with department’s need and expectations. Perform otherduties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science in MedicalTechnology required, or Bachelor’s degree with an ASCP or AMTcertification for Medical Technologist or Medical LaboratoryScientist or eligible. NCA certification required or eligible.
