Questions about this position can be directed to recruitment@msdh.ms.gov. About the Position This is a time limited NS-14 position. This position will act as a scientist in performing analyses, and interpreting and reporting test results on drinking water submitted to the State Public Health Laboratory Environmental Inorganic Section for chemical compounds in support of the State’s safe drinking water and environmental water quality program and state dairy regulation program. This position will serve as a subject matter expert and answer questions from the MSDH Public Water Program regarding interpretation of their analytical results. This position will participate in the daily operations of the testing section of the laboratory, enter and maintain data in the laboratory information system (LIMS), follow quality system measures as defined by the State and Federal certification agencies, and perform work as trained and in compliance with all laboratory policies and procedures to maintain MS Public Health Laboratory certification by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). What you’ll need to be Successful • Successful scientists will have the ability to perform basic microbiological, immunological, and molecular biology techniques as well as the ability to follow written and oral instructions. Successfully scientists will have the capability to perform calculations, measurements and unit conversion calculations. Successful scientist will also have the ability to effectively communicate with others, both orally and in writing and will be able to work collegially with peers. Successful scientist should have a strong interest in science especially biology and chemistry, be self-motivated, and like challenges and responsibility. Successful scientist should be able to work well under pressure, be detail-oriented, and enjoy working with computers and state-of-the-art technology. Preferred Qualifications Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree and 2-4 years of experience.
