Position Summary The Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) performs clinical laboratory tests by standard operating policies and procedures. Understands method principles, performs quality control & calibrations, performs preventive maintenance, and analyzes results as to accuracy, acceptability and critical limits. As a MLS, you will: Prepare patient specimens as required for laboratory testing and perform laboratory tests specific to department. Monitor test results to assure test quality and validity. Communicate test results in a timely manner. Enter and retrieve data from laboratory computer systems. Clean and maintain laboratory equipment and environment. Demonstrate appropriate, caring behavior in the workplace, treating patients, their families, visitors and staff with respect and dignity. Works alternate shifts as required. Perform other duties as assigned, including, but not limited to, phlebotomy. Minimum Requirements Bachelor’s degree or higher in Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology, or a biological, chemical, or physical science from an accredited institution. Bachelor’s degree with a combination of 30 semester hours (45 quarter hours) in biology and chemistry, obtained within or in addition to the degree is also acceptable. For non-CLS/MT degrees, one year of experience in a clinical laboratory is required.
Preferred:
Certification as MLS, BB, C, H or MB by ASCP or other nationally recognized certifying agency. Other Information 40 hours per week
Monday – Friday (7 am – 3:30 pm)
Required to work a weekend rotation for every 4th weekend and rotational holidays
