Competitive retirement package to secureyour future. Responsibilities The Research Fellow will work on newand ongoing projects in the Division of Computational Pathology andArtificial Intelligence. Projects will provide an excellentopportunity to work with multidisciplinary teams and large clinicaldata sets. Mayo Clinic has embarked on digitizing its largecollection of glass slides, with several million gigapixel imagescurrently available. The research fellow will use these data sets,accompanied by other clinically sourced data, as a springboard topursue multiple cutting-edge topics in machine learning, imageanalysis, and discovery in support of the clinical and researchactivities of the division. The fellow will work on projects thatinclude:
- Developing novel algorithms to classify, segment,characterize, or predict patient outcomes, biomarker status, ordisease
- Evaluating model behavior and robustness, with a focus ondeveloping novel methods to improve model performance andgeneralizability
- Analyzing human-AI interaction to understand thehuman factors associated with AI augmentation of pathology TheResearch Fellow will work under the mentorship of pathologists anddata scientists, and will work closely with other trainees, ITgroups, and other staff in support of these projects.
A ResearchFellow in Engineering (ENG) is based on role and responsibilitiesrequiring Engineering skills regardless of Ph.D. background. Mainskills used in this track may include setting up mechanicalresearch equipment, developing experimental protocols, biomechanicsdevelopment in orthopedics, implementing protocols, and/orproviding engineering technical expertise and analysis.
Responsibilities (depending upon area of research) may also involveuse of x-ray computed tomography (CT), radiation dosimetry, x-rayphysics, and proficiency in Matlab and/or C++ programs. May work ina special engineering group, process and test algorithms,informatics, data for computer programming, and implementalgorithms to apply to concepts, research, and clinicalapplications and devices. A Research Fellow at Mayo Clinic is atemporary position intended to provide training and education inresearch. Individuals will train in the research program of a MayoClinic principal investigator. Qualified individuals willdemonstrate the potential for research as evidenced by theirtraining and peer-reviewed publications and should becomecompetitive for national research grants. Proof of Englishproficiency is required for J-1 Short-Term Scholars, ResearchScholars, Professors, Specialists, and Student Interns sponsored byMayo Clinic. Qualifications Must have a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalentdoctoral degree in a field deemed relevant by the program.
Compensation Detail $64,787.84 – $80,990.21 annually Education,experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equitywhen job offers are extended.
