A Brief Overview Responsible for the education,training, program administration and general supervision of theMLS, MLT, Histology, and Phlebotomy students rotating through theLaboratory in addition to the duties of a Clinical LaboratoryScientist. Under the guidance of the Pathologist Medical Directorand laboratory leadership, this position assures effectiveeducation and quality of services provided to the studentpopulation as well as the onboarding of new employees and thecontinuing education of existing staff. Performs a variety ofclinical laboratory tests, procedures and related duties throughoutthe clinical laboratory (all areas), utilizing scientificprinciples as well as technical, procedural, and problem-solvingaptitudes for day-to-day laboratory services, quality control,quality assurance, procedure/instrument maintenance, test resultcorrelation and clinical laboratory continuing education. What youwill do Performs the duties of a Medical Laboratory Scientist in acompetent, effective manner in addition to the educationalresponsibilities. Participates with the Education Coordinator andvarious MLS/MLT program directors in planning, preparing thecurriculum content, practical assignments and clinical courserotation in accordance with accreditation standards. Works with theEducation Coordinator in developing competency assessment plans,tools and documents to meet regulatory requirements. Counsel andguide students concerning professional goals, personal andeducational needs and problems. Participate in the resolution ofclinical issues requiring educational interventions. Develops,adapts, presents and maintains the training rotations andeducational materials of the various programs within the laboratoryoperations processes. Maintains professional skills and refineexpertise through on-site training, bench work, educationalactivities, professional affiliations and research. Deliverstraining independently or in collaboration with content experts.

Participates in recruitment and public relations programs to enlistapplicants for the programs and profession. Complies withestablished department policies, procedures and regulations andwith hospital policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance,safety, environmental and infection control. Demonstrates effectiveteaching skills and uses a variety of instructional methods andteaching strategies. Essential Qualifications The individual mustbe able to work the hours specified. To perform this jobsuccessfully, an individual must be able to perform each essentialjob function satisfactorily including having visual acuity adequateto perform position duties and the ability to communicateeffectively with others, hear, understand and distinguish speechand other sounds. Required Education,License/Certification, or Work Experience:

Bachelor’s Transcriptshowing Medical Laboratory Scientist degree or Bachelor’sTranscript showing Medical Technology degree MLS – American MedicalTechnologists (AMT) Upon Hire or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS)- American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP)

Upon HirePreferred Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience:

1-3years Previous experience in technical quality assessment andprocedural development and implementation 1-3 years Experience inmedical laboratory science education that includes teachingcourses, conducting and supervising laboratory learningexperiences, and evaluating student achievement Expectations andStandards Commitment to the daily application of Avera’s mission,vision, core values, and social principles to serve patients, theirfamilies, and our community.
