Weather Forecaster Essential Functions

This role is vital in supportingDepartment of Defense (DoD) operationsby delivering precise weather intelligence for military installations, aircrews, ground forces, planners, and decision-makers. Location Shaw AFB, SC Essential Functions & Responsibilities +
Weather Forecast Production:
Developdigital weather products, data fields, and servicesusing satellite, radar, lightning, and observational data. +
Military Weather Support:
Forecastbase/post conditions, provide weather warnings, and brief transient air crews. + Mission Execution Forecasts (MEFs): Generate detailed forecasts fortakeoff, enroute travel, destinations, and air refueling tracksworldwide. +
Operational Meteorology:
Analyzeclimatic regimes, terrain, centralized weather products, and indigenous surface/upper air reportsto refine forecast accuracy. +
Decision-Cycle Weather Input:
Shape, plan, and execute forecasts supportingAir Force, Army, Guard, Reserve, and combatant command operations. +
Hazard Monitoring:
Track severe weather phenomena such aslightning, icing, and turbulenceto provide real-time advisories. +
Technical Forecast Adjustments:
Modify centrally developed forecasts to ensure mission-specific accuracy and relevance. +
Security & Compliance:
MaintainCOMSEC, OPSEC, and COMPUSECstandards in meteorological operations. +
Training & Oversight:
Mentor trainees, ensuring proficiency in mission-specific weather forecasting. +
Emergency Weather Analysis:
Deliver critical guidance duringsevere weather events, combat operations, and high-stress emergency scenarios. Qualifications Conditions of Employment + Active Top Secret/SCI security clearance is mandatory + Familiarity with Special Access Program (SAP) networks, NATO protocols, and Alternative Compensatory Control Measures (ACCM) is required + U.S. Citizenship required + Must participate in a federal background investigation + A minimum of two (2) years’ certified weather forecasting experience supporting DoD operations, with at least three (3) years required specifically for positions within the 732 OSS unit + Robust knowledge and application of comprehensive security principles related to Communications Security (COMSEC), Operations Security (OPSEC), and Computer Security (COMPUSEC) + Demonstrated ability to independently assess, develop, and implement effective security measures, manage vulnerabilities, and maintain the integrity of classified information +
Weather Forecasting Experience:
Expertise in military meteorology , including Air Force and Army-specific requirements. +
Technical Proficiency:
Skilled in AFW-WEBS, Mark IV-B, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and operational weather software. +
Analytical & Communication Skills:
Ability to provide oral presentations, written reports, and visual briefings . +
Shift Work Flexibility:
