Overview The School of Environmental and Biological Sciences, located on the George H. Cook Campus, is one of the largest schools of Rutgers University in Brunswick, Jersey. We pursue excellence in research, teaching, and outreach in areas of study that address the biological spectrum from molecules to ecosystems. Our emphasis is on both the fundamental sciences and the social and human dimensions. We offer 21 undergraduate majors, including plant and animal sciences, microbiology, biotechnology, agriculture and food systems, landscape architecture, food and nutritional sciences, ecology and evolution, marine science and oceanography, environmental sciences and meteorology, human ecology, entomology, and environmental economics. In addition to instruction in the classroom, field, and laboratory, our students have opportunities for experiential learning on and off campus, including a growing emphasis on international experiences through short- and long-term study abroad. Students also have access to a robust program of applied research and outreach hosted by the Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station laboratories, farms, business incubators, and marine stations throughout the state. Posting Summary Rutgers, The State University of Jersey is seeking a Laboratory Researcher II for the Department of Ecology, Evolution, and Natural Resources within the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences ( SEBS). Among the key duties of the position are the following: Performs complex environmental DNA (eDNA) experiments and research using advanced molecular and field techniques.
Documents the work performed, maintains all databases that result from research output, and develops information for research papers.
Consults with graduate students, other eDNA research staff, and the lab Principal Investigator in the preparation of proposals, grant applications, annual progress reports, and budget proposals for the eDNA lab.
Manages the maintenance of qPCR, PCR and other highly specialized equipment.
Keeps the eDNA laboratory organized in a clean and safe manner.
Teaches and trains students and technicians on laboratory processes and equipment.
Handles the preparation of a wide variety of reports, manages grant funds, and acts as a point of contact for both internal and external constituents.
Completes work independently, with broadly defined work objectives and limited review of overall results.
Performs professional work that requires specialized knowledge of eDNA research, which is a rapidly growing field, and has a solid understanding, use, and application of concepts, theories, principles, practices, terminology, and applied bases of eDNA research. FLSA Exempt

Mid Range Salary 100485.00
Maximum Salary 121582.00

Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences or closely related field and five years of experience in a laboratory research function. Certifications/Licenses Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Excellent communication skills in biological research outcomes in professional settings.
Proven skill in database construction, scientific writing, and complex project management.
Advanced knowledge of ecology, genetics or closely related fields, instrument maintenance and calibration, and sufficient understanding of probability statistics to analyze research outputs.
Experience conducting PCR, qPCR and DNA sequencing. Preferred Qualifications Master of Science degree, or higher, in ecology or closely related field
Knowledge of and experience in the molecular analyses necessary for eDNA research including best-practices and fluency in associated peer-reviewed literature.
Experience in production of peer-reviewed research publications. Equipment Utilized Environmental DNA sampling methods and proven experience in qPCR, next-generation DNA sequencing, and bioinformatics.
