Summary You will serve as a

SUPERVISORY INTERDISCIPLINARY PHYSICAL SCIENTIST/OCEANOGRAPHER

in the

OCEANOGRAPHIC DEPARTMENT

(NP3) of

NAVOCEANO BAY ST LOUIS.

Responsibilities You will serve as the Department Director, responsible for the overall management, planning, production policies, and execution of mission functions and tasks. You will provide direct administrative and technical supervision to Division level supervisors, oceanographers and physical scientists. You will plan, implement, coordinate and direct the operations of the Oceanographic Department. You will establish priorities and make work assignments in accordance with Department mission objectives. You will ensure formulation of scientific, technical, and resource plans needed for the preparation of integrated long-range fiscal and production objectives. You will provide constructive input and participation working across organizational boundaries. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-14 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Mastery experience with oceanographic and physical sciences to formulate new hypotheses, theories, concepts, principles, methods, applications and practices. Experience with oceanographic survey and data processing/analysis techniques to characterize the battle space and to provide expert advice to navy operations with an emphasis on Undersea Surveillance and Warfare and Anti-Submarine Warfare. Experience coordinating, planning, and directing the efforts of professional and scientific personnel conducting data acquisition, planning, and deployment, of specialized operations for the collection of oceanographic data. Experience developing and maintaining near-term and long-range plans for strategies including budget, sensor, and human resources to accomplish data collection and product generation tasking. Experience developing methods, plans, and the execution of scientific requirements; interpreting incomplete or conflicting data to complete assignments. Experience constructing and managing activities related to naval warfare, scientific applications and system analysis, with emphasis on acoustic and geophysical programs. major study of at least 24 semester hours in oceanography or a related discipline such as physics, meteorology, geophysics, mathematics, chemistry, engineering, geology, or biology, plus 20 additional semester hours in any combination of oceanography, physics, geophysics, chemistry, mathematics, meteorology, computer science, and engineering sciences. or Combination of education and experience — course work as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Applicants who qualify on the basis of major study in biology or geology must have had at least 6 semester hours in the major directly concerned with marine science or 6 semester hours in oceanography; applicants who qualify on the basis of other physical sciences or engineering must have had differential and integral calculus and at least 6 semester hours in physics.
