Full-Time Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Senior R D Manager to lead our PVC formulation and product development initiatives at our facility in Pennsylvania. The successful candidate will oversee a team of three direct reports, driving innovation in polyvinyl chloride (PVC) formulations and product solutions to meet market demands and organizational goals. This role requires deep expertise in PVC chemistry, formulation, and product development, along with strong leadership skills to guide cross-functional teams in delivering high-quality, sustainable, and cost-effective products.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Team Management:
Manage, mentor, and develop a team of three R D professionals, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment. Set clear objectives, provide performance feedback, and support career development for direct reports. Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, quality assurance, and marketing, to align R D efforts with business objectives.
PVC Formulation and Product Development:
Lead the design, development, and optimization of PVC formulations for various applications, ensuring compliance with industry standards and customer specifications. Oversee the development of new PVC-based products, from concept to commercialization, including prototyping, testing, and scale-up. Innovate and improve existing PVC formulations to enhance performance, sustainability, and cost-efficiency.
Research and Innovation:
Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes related to PVC materials and applications. Identify and implement new materials, additives, and processing techniques to advance product performance and market competitiveness. Collaborate with external partners, such as suppliers and research institutions, to explore novel solutions and technologies.
Project Management:
Plan, prioritize, and manage R D projects, ensuring timely delivery within budget constraints. Utilize project management tools to track progress, allocate resources, and mitigate risks. Prepare and present technical reports, project updates, and recommendations to senior leadership.
Regulatory and Safety Compliance:
Ensure all R D activities comply with environmental, health, and safety regulations, including EPA and OSHA standards. Maintain thorough documentation of formulations, testing protocols, and product specifications to meet regulatory requirements.
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, Materials Science, or a related field; Master’s or Ph.D. preferred.
Experience:
Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in PVC formulation and product development, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership or managerial role. Proven track record of successfully developing and commercializing PVC-based products. Experience managing small teams (3+ direct reports) in an R D environment.
Technical Skills:
Deep expertise in PVC chemistry, compounding, and processing techniques. Proficiency in analytical methods (e.g., FTIR, DSC, TGA) and testing standards for polymer materials. Familiarity with extrusion, injection molding, or other PVC processing technologies.
Soft Skills:
Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills to manage teams and collaborate with stakeholders. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. Problem-solving mindset with a focus on innovation and continuous improvement.
Location Requirement:
Must be based in or willing to relocate to Pennsylvania.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with sustainable or bio-based PVC formulations. Knowledge of regulatory frameworks for PVC products in industries such as construction, packaging, or medical devices. Familiarity with Lean Six Sigma or other process improvement methodologies.
