General Responsibilities To be responsible for the overall operation of the lab and to oversee projects within the lab. To contribute to the design, interpretation and writing of grant proposals and publications. To supervise a research team, direct and teach lab practices and to manage lab equipment and supplies.
Key Duties & Responsibilities Research Project Design/Planning/Execution/Management:
55% Contribute to the experimental design of research projects. Plan, execute, and troubleshoot experiments under the supervision of the PI. Recruit and organize other laboratory members to assist with large experiments as needed. Perform experiments hands-on with mice housed in conventional SPF and/or germ-free conditions which includes the exposure of mice to human pathogens, monitoring of mouse health, administration of test products to mice, the collection and processing of samples from mice longitudinally, and the necropsy of mice and collection of tissues. Maintain animals within gnotobiotic isolators. Perform survival surgeries on laboratory animals in conventional SPF and/or germ-free conditions. Process and analyze samples from animal models, including but not limited to necropsy, cell isolation and enumeration; cell staining for flow cytometry; cell storage; cell culture and cell-based functional assays; histology, PCR. Optimize research methodology, protocols and procedures Maintain a functional notebook as a record of laboratory activities and data.
Data Collection and Analysis:
30% Collect, record, and analyze data collected from animal, flow cytometry, PCR, histology, and cell-based assay experiments. Perform statistical analyses of data using appropriate statistical software (e.g. GraphPad Prism, R, SAS) Record software programs (including versions) used for data collection and analysis.
Data Presentation, Publication, and Reporting:
10% Prepare abstracts, posters, and presentation of project results and present at laboratory meetings and scientific conferences. Prepare and submit manuscripts (original research and review articles). Assist with the preparation of contract/grant applications and contract/grant progress reports.
General Laboratory Support:
5% Respond to laboratory emergencies on evenings/weekends/holidays as scheduled. Prepare and submit
IACUC/EHS/IRB
protocols and amendments. Provide hands-on technical support to other laboratory members as requested. Perform other duties as assigned.
Salary Range :
$49,004.80- $ 70,000 Qualifications Qualifications Doctorate in a related field and one (1) year of related experience OR Master’s degree in a related field and three (3) years of related experience OR Bachelor’s degree in related field and five (5) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. Preferences PhD in a life science or related field with 5+ years of experience in a research laboratory.
