The Samuel Ginn Collegeof Engineering is seeking candidates for multiple positions ofPrincipal Research Scientist/Engineer in anticipation of securingcontract funding in multiple areas of engineering and scienceincluding modeling and simulation; systems engineering andintegration; cyber security engineering; critical infrastructureprotection; advanced manufacturing; additive manufacturing;materials science and engineering; assured position, navigation andtiming; propulsion systems and project management on multipleprograms funded by government and private industry.
These positionswill be located in Auburn, Alabama and will report to the AssociateDean for Research, College of Engineering. The successfulcandidates may also work with leaders of other units such asAuburn’s McCrary Institute for Cyber and Critical InfrastructureSecurity, Cyber Research Center, National Center for AdditiveManufacturing Excellence, and the Huntsville Research Center toidentify and develop potential research sponsors in the strategicfocus areas of Auburn University research.
Major responsibilitiesinclude: Providing technical expertise through the various Auburnprograms in subjects such as those listed above directly togovernment and industry sponsors. Providing Subject Matter Expertise to senior leaders ingovernment and industry related to subjects such as cyber securitythreats and subsequent threat mitigation strategies andmethods. Providing Subject Matter Expertise to senior leaders ingovernment and industry related to protecting the nation’s criticalinfrastructure systems (energy, water, transportation, food,commerce, etc.). Providing Subject Matter Expertise to industry and governmentsponsors in the broad areas of modeling, simulation, and systemsengineering and integration. Providing Subject Matter Expertise to senior leaders ingovernment and industry related to additive manufacturing, advancedmanufacturing, and advanced materials. Providing Subject Matter Expertise to senior leaders ingovernment and industry related to vehicle dynamics and assuredposition, navigation, and timing. Providing Subject Matter Expertise to NASA and industry seniorleaders in payload integration including requirement definition andverification/validation of potential exploration payloads. Collaborating with the nation’s community of industry,government, and academia on national policy and technology thataffects various defense, aerospace, manufacturing, and relatedindustry sectors along with federal, state, and local governmentagencies.
Essential Functions:
Conducts contract research and creates progress and finalreports as necessary; provides technical management of researchcontracts and oversees the content and timeliness of contractdeliverables. Develops research proposals and budgets. Coordinates research opportunities between Auburn Universityfaculty and staff, local government agencies, and privateindustries. Initiates and cultivates relationships with agencies andindustries in order to build research and educational programs forAuburn University. Establishes and grows research funding for Auburn University bypursuing local opportunities. Interfaces with Auburn University faculty and staff to build anin-depth knowledge of on-campus research capabilities. Candidate may supervise employees but supervision is not themain focus of the job; responsibilities could include training,mentoring, evaluating, and making or recommending pay, promotion orother employment decisions.

Minimum Skills, License, and Certifications:
Knowledge ofcontracts, grants, budget, accounting, and finance principles isrequired. Technical knowledge in advanced systems engineering orcyber security related research projects and programs isrequired.
Desired Qualifications:
Extensive experience withgovernment agencies or industry in engineering or science-basedapplications. Additional years of combined experience in planning,directing, executing, and integrating the work and resources ofgovernment agency/industry projects or programs; experience inbusiness planning and development including developing keystrategic partnership and relationships with Industry, governmentand research Institutions; excellent interpersonal communicationsskills.
