The Office of Institutional Research, Effectiveness, and Planning (IREP) serves the University of Mississippi by providing institutional information to meet the decision-making, assessment, evaluation, reporting, accreditation, and planning needs of faculty, staff, academic, and administrative leaders.     Role Summary
    Leads highly technical team in the development and implementation of institutional research systems; collection, analysis, and reporting of complex data for institutional, state, and national entities; and development of reports and analytics that support university decision-makers and ensures compliance in regulatory reporting.

The University of Mississippi seeks an Associate Director of Institutional Research to provide leadership and expertise in the area of institutional research by collecting, analyzing, and reporting complex data for institutional, state, and national entities. The incumbent conducts workshops, delivers presentations, and serves as a consultant to departments for using institutional and external data in decision support efforts. The associate director coordinates personnel and resources to address strategic issues such as retention, graduation rates, enrollment and recruiting through the assignment of projects, setting of priorities, increasing efficiencies, and streamlining processes. This position is part of Institutional Research, Effectiveness, & Planning and reports directly to the Director of Institutional Research, Effectiveness, and Planning.

Examples of work to be performed and essential functions include:

  • Manages the collection, analysis, and reporting of complex data to administrators, faculty, students, and external entities.
  • Coordinates with IHL Board Office and the National Center for Educational Statistics to ensure compliance with required state and federal reporting requirements.
  • Coordinates with appropriate departments in research and statistical analyses for various projects in areas such as human resources, curricula, instruction, payroll, facilities, student success, or finance including assistance with program accreditation.
  • Monitors the overall integrity of university data and coordinates data validation efforts across campus to improve the collection and submission of accurate data into the university’s ERP system.
  • Supports the use/analysis of data related to the effective practice of continuous improvement and, maintains and distributes data, studies, or research to support the planning efforts of the institution.
  • Designs and conducts statistical analyses and communicates complex statistical information in writing, verbally, and graphically for diverse audiences.
  • Responds to ad hoc requests from internal and external constituencies; coordinates key office publications.
  • Coordinates with staff from campus offices (e.g., Information Technology, Registrar, Graduate School) to ensure timely and accurate reporting of data.
  • Facilitates and develops relationships for common data sources to meet needs of external reporting and internal decision support.
  • Communicates information on national trends and best practices in institutional research effectively.
  • Represents the Director in areas of assigned responsibility, in his/her absence as requested.
  • Serves as a member of various committees and participates in state, regional and national organizations.
  • Assists with IREP initiatives, institutional research projects, and strategic planning projects as requested.
  • Provides supervision, guidance, feedback, and evaluation to assigned staff members.
  • Performs similar or related duties as assigned or required.

Essential Functions
These essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following. Additional essential functions may be identified and included by the hiring department.
1. Establishes, administers, and directs the coordination of the university’s institutional research activities including collecting, analyzing, interpreting, and reporting complex statistical information on the characteristics of the institution and/or peer institutions from a variety of sources to administrators, faculty, students, and external entities, including state (IHL) and federal government (IPEDS).
2. Coordinates with appropriate departments in research and statistical analyses for various projects in areas such as human resources, curricula, instruction, payroll, facilities, DEI, or finance including assistance with program accreditation.
3. Coordinates with IHL Board Office and the National Center for Educational Statistics to ensure compliance with required state and federal reporting requirements.
4. Provides strategic direction for the maintenance and support of the institutional research information system and analytics platform ensuring compliance with established principles and processes including developing an analytics roadmap and establishing appropriate data usage protocols.
5. Monitors the overall integrity of university data and coordinates data validation efforts across campus to improve the collection and submission of accurate data into the university’s ERP system.
6. Collaborates with the Office of Information Technology to establish a campus-wide data governance framework.
7. Directs staff of data analysts and applications developers in planning and implementing short and long-term strategies.
8. Supports the use/analysis of data related to the effective practice of continuous improvement and, maintains and distributes data, studies, or research to support the planning efforts of the institution
Minimum Education/Experience

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree

Experience:

(6 ) Six Years Experience with 3 Years Supervisory experience
An equivalent combination of related experience and education may be considered for this role. Substitutions of the required experience or education will be assessed on a 1:1 substitution basis.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in social science, research or a related field.
  • Three (3) years of experience related to the above described duties.
