Job Description

OPS Research Technician 4.2 4.2 out of 5 stars 341 Tigert Hall 300 SW 13th St, Gainesville, FL 32611 The Ding Lab in the Department of Medicinal Chemistry is looking for a full-time OPS Research Technician to use bacteria and yeast to produce bioactive molecules under microgravity conditions. The successful candidate will design and conduct experiments using microbiology, genetics, synthetic biology and molecular biology techniques. Additional duties will include but not be limited to general laboratory and equipment maintenance. The Ding lab has multiple interdisciplinary projects and technicians, undergrads, grad students, and postdocs of various backgrounds, which provide an excellent training environment for self-motivated candidates.

Required Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree in microbiology, molecular biology, chemical engineering, or a related field. Appropriate college coursework or technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Preferred:

Candidates are expected to have at least one year of microbiology- or molecular biology-related bench work experience. Training will be given as needed. The ideal candidate will have experience in culturing E. coli , Streptomyces , Saccharomyces cerevisiae , Candida albicans and other yeast species, MIC determination, DNA and RNA isolation, and molecular biology; paying attention to details and being precise; working flexible hours as needed. The ideal candidate will also be able to design experiments, explore research literature, interpret and analyze the data, and solve technical problems. Applicants must keep complete and precise records, including an up-to-date, organized, legible, and accurate laboratory notebook. Applicants must also possess basic math skills, solid basic computer knowledge, excellent use of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, and an ability to work, interact and communicate well with others.
