We are conducting forefront research in Bi-2212 and REBCO conductor technologies and applying our understanding to R D insert magnets that have generated fields of almost 35 T for Bi-2212 and >45 T for REBCO. To properly evaluate both technologies for magnet applications, it is essential to understand the fundamental properties of the conductors and the defects that they may contain, since no magnet is ever better than its conductor. This position requires strong expertise in detailed superconducting and microstructural characterization of advanced HTS conductors, as well as the ability to collaborate effectively with our multi-disciplinary conductor and magnet team. It is expected that the candidate will publicly present his or her work at appropriate meetings and contribute strongly to proposals for continued funding of the work. Qualifications We seek a candidate with a PhD degree in Materials Science, Physics, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of six years of experience in superconducting conductor and magnet technology and a significant publication record. Experience as a funded Principal Investigator will be valuable and relevant to driving the principal research thrusts of the ASC.
