CORE JOB SUMMARY
The Research Associate 1, GAB supports research activities for the assigned division by conducting laboratory experiments on assigned research projects. Moreover, the incumbent operates with the goal of advancing his/her expertise through continued education, training, and research.

Understands and interprets research protocols and procedures. 2. Participates in the publication of significant results. 3. Maintains an overview of relevant research findings. 4. Ensures all research is undertaken according to good research practice. 5. Keeps abreast of current publications relative to methods, techniques, and developments within the area of research. 6. Collects, prepares, analyzes, dissects, and evaluates specimens or tissue cultures. 7. Operates and maintains laboratory equipment. 8. Performs a variety of routine assays, tests, and studies. 9. Performs calculations to complete research test results, collects data, and performs statistical analysis of laboratory results. 10. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets. Department Specific Functions Review, update and develop quality documents used in laboratory activities including but not limited to: Technical data sheets, process sheets, work sheets, work instructions, standard operating procedures, training forms and procedures, summary tables. Follow the quality system and

requirements as delegated or as applicable based on laboratory activities conducted. Reviews and validates the requirements of test methods used in laboratory activities including standard and non-standard test methods, ensuring the necessary data and observations are recorded. Perform internal checks and calibrations of instrumentation as needed. Performs sampling of test samples as needed based on applicable requirements. Advises on regulations and guidelines related to equipment maintenance, as necessary. Applies standard operating procedures and follows relevant documentation for compliance with internal policies and laboratory regulations/guidelines. Advises on technical procedures, techniques, and equipment, and maintain conformance with specific operational standards. Coordinate workflow of experimental test projects, scheduling and setting priorities. Maintains updated the daily progress of research projects and other laboratory activities. Reviews and organizes technical data generated from testing activities. Reviews and updates technical documents to meet standard test requirements. Support SML manager with technical and administrative activities pertaining
ISO 17025
2017 accreditation requirements. Ensures continuous improvement of the SML activities. Communicates on a continuous basis with SML manager.
Department Specific Qualifications Education:
Bachelor’s degree in a Civil, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering, material science, or other STEM related area, required.
Certification and Licensing:

Experience with NDT, MTS, NI and other testing equipment, instruments and data acquisition and testing techniques. Minimum two years of laboratory experience in the area of civil and structural engineering materials.

Skill in collecting, organizing, and analyzing data. Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems. Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions. Able to convey information effectively. Able to follow verbal and written instructions. Strong analytical skills.
