Goizueta Distinguished Presidential Residence Program at the Cuban Heritage Collection (CHC) of the University of Miami Libraries invites senior scholars and public intellectuals to engage in in-depth research and writing projects that align with the study of Cuba and/or the Cuban diaspora. Fellows may be in residence for one semester (5 months) or a full academic year (10 months), utilizing CHC’s vast repository of materials. The fellowship seeks to strengthen CHC’s reputation as a premier destination for interdisciplinary research in Cuban studies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Research and Scholarship Conducts advanced research and writing on a project of scholarly merit or broad public interest related to Cuba and/or the Cuban diaspora. Engages with CHC’s collections to develop new insights and contributions to the field. Produces a scholarly or public-facing output as a result of the fellowship. Public Engagement Delivers a public lecture at the conclusion of the fellowship, open to UM faculty, students, and the South Florida community. Year-long fellows may collaborate with CHC faculty and staff to develop a larger public program, such as a panel discussion, symposium, or performance. Participates in CHC public and academic events throughout the residency. Residency Requirements Maintains a presence at CHC for a minimum of three full days per week conducting research and/or writing. Allows for short-term travel, illness, and holidays within the fellowship period. Academic Collaboration Engages with University of Miami faculty, CHC patrons, and students in the Program in Cuban Studies. May participate in class visits or individual consultations with students and researchers.
ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES
Works in collaboration with CHC faculty and staff to ensure alignment of research with CHC’s mission and resources. Provides updates on research progress to CHC leadership as needed. Adheres to all CHC and University of Miami policies and guidelines related to research and public engagement. This fellowship provides a unique opportunity for scholars to contribute to the advancement of Cuban and Cuban diaspora studies while benefiting from the rich resources and intellectual community of the Cuban Heritage Collection.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
MD in relevant field
Experience:
Must be working as a resident or fellow in University of Miami program.
Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:
Skills in collecting, organizing, and analyzing data. Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems. Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.
