We are looking for a Senior Sensory Scientist in 5707 Waterford District Dr, Miami, FL 33126 USA.
Your mission will be to:
Position Summary The incumbent will lead, manage, and execute sensory and consumer research studies to meet the client objectives by working within the sensory science team both internal and external. Study types include descriptive, discrimination, focus groups and quantitative consumer research studies Qualifications Required
- Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science or Sensory related field (Biology, Physiology, Statistics, Consumer Science, Cognitive Behavior) Qualifications Desired
- 5 years of sensory work experience Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Lead and conduct single or multi stage projects, delivering to the required standards and agreed timelines, including designing research to meet client objectives, to product good quality, actionable data, interpreting results, reporting/presenting findings, making recommendations and contributing to decision making.
A wide range of sensory science methods may be employed including both qualitative and quantitative.
- Interface with clients to help determine their needs and how to apply sensory science to answer their research question. The clients will include persons from other sensory departments, marketing, quality, product development, and executives.
- Work collaboratively with cross functional internal teams including Business Development, Sales, and other Sensory team members to define internal and client objectives.
- Communicate directly with clients to setting up all aspects of the project including project set up, project execution and sending out the report.
- Provide insight and support the consumer panel recruitment process and helping to improve and expand the panel database.
- Assist in study preparation including: RedJade creation (project, schedules, questionnaires, test design), cup labeling and sample preparation/portioning/serving.
- Work to improve all aspects of the department, including functional methodologies, practical solutions and facilities and presenting these ides in an appropriate way to management.
- Develop and implement SOPs/Work Instructions for testing or department procedures.
- Lead and train descriptive panelists using Spectrum methodology as well as provide feedback on panelist performance.
- Proficient in electronic software – recruiting, scheduling, building ballots and data analysis.
- Apply statistical analysis to the data output from studies in order to interpret the results for the client.
- Plan and execute trainings/presentations internally as well as for clients.
- Supervise logistics with external descriptive panelists including communicating with client and panelists, providing monthly engagement sessions, panelist performance, feedback, recruiting, screening and training new panelists.
- Provide informal coaching and share experience with more junior colleagues and technicians.

Interaction with the Business Development Team, Seales, Sensory Manager, and Other Sensory Team Members. The incumbent has contact with Clients outside of the organization.
YOUR PROFILE
Success Factors / Job Competencies
- Experience in conducting and applying appropriate statistical analysis for a variety of Sensory methodologies for: Descriptive Analysis, Discrimination Testing, and Product Based Consumer Research
- Experience in training and monitoring Spectrum or QDA Descriptive panels
- Working knowledge with Windows based software
- Experience with RedJade is a plus
- Strong problem solving, organization and attention to detail skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Self-motivated
- Ability to balance multiple priorities and multi task
- Ability to lift at least 25 pounds Physical Demands and Work Environment
- The incumbent works in a laboratory with proper lighting and temperature control.
Working in the laboratory is necessary when evaluating the tasks of subordinates and explaining new techniques. The incumbent experiences occasional exposure to hot or heated oil and hot or boiling liquids. The incumbent works in a laboratory with increased temperatures near the ovens and range microwaves and dishwasher. The incumbent is required to wear laboratory coat or apron, hairnets and gloves when in laboratory areas. The incumbent can expect extended time spent on feet and in a standing position. The incumbent should be able to detect slight differences in variation in shades and colors as well as perceive major attributes in foods and beverages. Travel
