A bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Liu lab is looking for a self-motivated Research Assistant I to work on projects aimed to discover small molecules for human diseases. Candidates with a background in medicinal chemistry, chemical biology, or molecular biology will be given preference. The successful applicant will be expected to work under general supervision, independently and in collaboration with others, perform research for projects; provide interpretation and initial analysis of results; investigate, troubleshoot and modify methods and procedures; assist in designing experiments; perform other related duties, tasks and responsibilities as required or assigned. Perform basic molecular biology experiments including but not limited to tissue culture, cloning, and western blot.
Design and set up high-throughput screening assays.
Design and synthesize bioactive small molecules.
Perform glassware washing; autoclaving; media, solution, and buffer preparation.
Other duties assigned such as weekly laboratory meetings and ordering, etc.

Commensurate with experience.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
A bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. This position is open to current UF employees only.
PREFERRED
Previous experience with general molecular biology techniques. Effective and proven communication skills.
Ability to prioritize based on deadlines.
Experience in a research environment including the ability to follow research protocols and record research data, etc.
