To learn more about Georgia Southern’s Vision, Mission and Values please click here: https://president.georgiasouthern.edu/performance-excellence/mission-values/ Location Statesboro Campus – Statesboro, GA Department Information Criminal Justice and Criminology Job Summary The Student Assistant will support the Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology as a Research Assistant on the Statesboro Campus beginning Summer 2025. The Department is need of a research assistant to work on a research project about Black Immigrant Integration in the U.S. South. The project has been approved by the Georgia Southern University IRB. The research assistant will help collect and clean data and help with other research-related tasks. The research assistants will write analytic memos, maintain detailed records, and keep in regular communication with the research team. The research assistant will also be asked to help with other research-related tasks as needed, which may include traveling to the local courthouse to collect quantitative case processing data from their on-site computers. Student employees cannot work more than 1300 hours in a 12-consecutive month period. Employment is contingent upon funding. Responsibilities
Complete CITI training for conducting research with human subjects and demonstrating responsible conduct in research
Clean interview transcripts and complete court observations at immigration courts in Georgia
Use Qualtrics to enter court observation data
Use NVivo software to code interviews and pages of court observation notes.

Key coding responsibilities includes:

Observe themes and patterns in the notes
Label cases
Provide detailed annotations. Regular training will be provided by members of the research team. Duties related to other research tasks will be discussed as the project progresses
Maintain regular contact with the research team, including attendance at meetings and timely responses to emails Shift Specifics Up to 20 hours per week
Flexible with schedule of availability
Must have access to a laptop or be willing to regularly travel to campus to use campus computers to log in to immigration court via WebEx
Required Qualifications Educational Requirements Must be enrolled in six or more undergraduate credit hours or three or more graduate credit hours at Georgia Southern University.
Proposed Salary $15.00 – $20.00 per hour This is a non-exempt position paid on a biweekly basis. Required Documents to Attach
