Job Description

Thank you for your interest in employment with Louisiana Tech University. The College of Applied and Natural Sciences is currently seeking applications for an Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies. This is a full-time, on campus, twelve-month, tenure-track position. Louisiana Tech University is a four-year selective admissions research university awarding bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees. Louisiana Tech has an enrollment of approximately 12,000 students and is in Ruston, Louisiana. The College of Applied and Natural Sciences consists of the following academic units: the School of Agricultural Sciences and Forestry, School of Biological Sciences, School of Communication Sciences and Disorders, Department of Health Informatics and Information Management, and the Division of Nursing. Graduate Degrees offered within the college include a Master of Science in Biology, Master of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics, Master of Science in Health Informatics, Master of Arts in Speech-Language Pathology, and Doctor of Audiology. There are also two graduate degrees administered jointly with other colleges at the university, including a Master of Science in Molecular Science and Nanotechnology and a PhD in Molecular Science and Nanotechnology. The College of Applied and Natural Sciences also offers several graduate certificates.

Job Duties:

The responsibilities of the position include administration, teaching, research, advising, and service. Administrative duties include guidance and support of graduate programs within the college, serving as chair of college committees related to graduate programs, assisting in the preparation of outcome assessments, assisting the Dean of the College of Applied and Natural Sciences, working with the college development officer, serving on university level committees and coordinating with the Louisiana Tech University graduate school. The position also includes supporting research activities among college faculty, ensuring mentorship of research faculty to develop external grant proposals, and coordinating interdisciplinary grant development. This position also engages with research centers within the college. Teaching within an appropriate academic unit within the College and advising and mentoring graduate students are expected. Responsibilities also include research within the applicant’s area of expertise and the pursuit of external funding, publishing papers in professional journals, and involving students in research. Service responsibilities include participating on College and University committees, serving as liaison to academic units within the College of Applied and Natural Sciences, and participating in professional organizations.

Position Qualifications:

The requirements for this position include a terminal degree in an academic discipline complementing a discipline within the College of Applied and Natural Sciences. A research and grant writing background are required with demonstrated experience in leadership, instruction, and professional service. The applicant must also have an ability to work with others in a motivated manner.
