Position Information Title AY25-26 Half (.5) Graduate Assistant – Office of Provost
Position Description The Half Graduate Assistant (.5 GA) will work 10 hours per week and receive up to 15 credits of tuition and student fee waivers: 6 for fall, 6 for spring and 3 for summer. Description of Duties
Specific duties for all graduate students working with the office will be:
Assist in the planning, implementation, facilitation and evaluation of Office of the Provost meetings and events, specifically focused on events that have broad outreach to wide numbers of faculty and staff.
Coordinate benchmarking studies exploring effective practices at multiple higher education institutions. These studies may lead to the student being asked to develop a summary table of data, a briefing paper that summarizes key themes, or a presentation slide deck that summarizes important findings.
Support the Associate or Assistant Provosts with project management and follow up communications. This may require communication with faculty and staff about current projects or ongoing participation in project meetings.
Assist in the management of BridgeNet or Blackboard sites for initiatives in the Office of the Provost or for faculty-led projects.
Where appropriate, participate in committees or advisory boards when student representation is needed. Depending on the graduate student’s areas of interest and/or professional goals, position responsibilities may also include:
A focus on data analysis projects, including the review of data from workshop evaluations or meetings. The student will be asked to summarize data and communicate key findings to Associate or Assistant Provosts; or
A focus on higher education leadership, including the focus on management responsibilities for campus committees or leadership groups such as the Leadership Council, Academic Council, Chairs Council or Provost’s Council if warranted; or
A focus in the management of communications projects, reflecting the Office of the Provost’s goal of improving outreach and engagement with the campus as a whole. A student choosing this area of focus will be someone who may design advertisements for events and partner with leaders in the division to bolster outreach and communications. A student in this role may also be asked to represent the Office of the Provost as part of ongoing outreach activities for the division. Preferred Qualifications Qualifications
Self-starter and persistent: Able to take initiative and persist on challenging tasks until they are complete
Data aptitude: Willingness to develop skills in assessment and reporting of data
Information literacy: able to find answers to questions and distinguish reliable sources
Digital literacy: able to work with a variety of document and spreadsheet software programs, such as Microsoft and Google, and can seek out online sources for troubleshooting problems
Communication and organization skills: Effective professional writing and speaking abilities to engage with faculty and administrators, and able to organize data and documents for others.
