In Vivo Research Technician/ Associate Alpha Preclinical 722 Plantation Street, Worcester, MA 01605 Research Associate – In Vivo Join Alpha Preclinical in vivo team as we bridge our client’s research needs to reach the clinic and leverage our expertise using a personalized interface approach. Our goal is to strategically partner with our clients by reliably providing well-executed and cost-effective studies conducted in a timely manner to support their innovative drug development and research programs. Alpha Preclinical, formed in 2020, is a discovery preclinical research service company designed to address the rapid and expansive growth demand of the discovery preclinical research sector. The life-science research community is being challenged to accelerate therapies into the market with better operational efficiency. Outsourcing preclinical research needs, allows companies to focus on their core competencies and reduce time to market. Alpha bridges our client’s needs pioneering the development of partnerships and collaboration with our clients. We are seeking an individual with contract research organization (CRO) experience and self-motivated Research Technician or Associate to join our rapidly growing team. In this role you will contribute to the company’s contracted study life cycle and execute client projects and programs. Specifically, you will be part of our cross-functional team executing in vivo studies and supportive in vitro responsibilities to advance our clients research and development (R D) programs. This role is a unique opportunity to join an early-stage, CRO startup. Research Associates work under the direct supervision of the Senior Management and the general guidance of the Scientists, who support project teams for preclinical in vivo studies across multiple therapeutic areas, collaborate with all team members to ensure seamless and timely execution of in vivo studies, exercise independent judgment to solve routine problems, edit, create and establish documents/processes, and understands when to obtain assistance or report problems to Senior Management or senior personnel. This position is full-time within a laboratory on-site at our facilities located in Worcester, MA.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Fully comprehends and performs all aspects of a study cycle for contract research studies including, but not limited to:
  • Receipt, distribution, assignment to study and husbandry of animals.
  • Preparation of animal housing/procedure rooms with all necessary supplies, materials and equipment required for projects.
  • Serve as assigned primary technician and may assist with Scientists with dose formulation and calculations.
  • Verifies drugs/agents and dose levels prior to use and administration.
  • Performs and/or assists in scheduled study procedures (dosing regimen, sample collection and processing, sampling frequencies, euthanasia, tissue collection, downstream analysis and data collection).Competent in a variety of other animal procedures and client program needs (e.g. surgical procedures (pre-, intra- and post-operative care and surgical recovery).
  • Observes, records, and reports atypical findings to veterinary staff, SD or Facility Supervisor.
  • Ability to interpret data values and summarize in data format.
  • Assists in data entry and quality control review according to SOPs or study protocols.
  • Maintains and organizes laboratory and vivarium areas.
  • Proficient to perform tasks in accordance with the internal SOPs.
  • May serve as a member on the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) and/or Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S).
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelors in biological sciences and 1+ years of relevant work experience. CRO setting, AALAS certification and experience with animal models a plus.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with in vivo techniques in rodent species.
  • Demonstrated experience in standard in vivo techniques, including common dose routes, minor surgery, necropsies, and anesthesia (both injectable and inhalant). Ability to perform aseptic surgical technique preferred.
  • Ability to navigate Microsoft Office Suite and electronic laboratory notebooking systems is preferred.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule (off core hours, weekends, and holidays) as necessary.
  • Willingness to learn other in vivo and in vitro techniques as needed.
  • Familiarity with laws, regulations and mandates associated with the humane use of animals in research.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, collaboration, time-management, and organizational skills are required.
  • The successful candidate will be an ambitious self-starter, have a strong work ethic, be able to generate high quality work under tight deadlines, and enjoy working in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Personnel must be willing to avoid contact and exposure to rodents and small animals as multiple pets and animal environments which might pose as transmitters of disease into animal facility (i.
