Position Function:
The Department of Comparative Biomedical Sciences at Mississippi State University is recruiting a full-time Research Scientist to support human and animal research with emphasis in the area of cancer therapeutics. The successful candidate will support targeted/untargeted metabolomics’ approaches by managing two
LC-MS/MS
instruments located in the College of Veterinary Medicine. Prior “hands on” experience with
LC-MS/MS
instrumentation and utilization of appropriate software, for enabling chemical compound identification/annotation, is required. In addition, prior experience in the utilization of in vitro / ex vivo / in vivo cancer models for the development of experimental / translational cancer therapeutics, is a must while priority will also be given to candidates with experience in developing and submitting grant proposals to various funding agencies. The position will be based in Starkville, Mississippi.
Salary Grade:
16 Please see Staff Compensation Structure or Skilled Crafts and Service Maintenance Compensation Schedule for salary ranges. For salary grade UC, these positions are “Unclassified” and salary ranges are determined by the hiring department.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Oversee day-to-day operations of mass spectrometry facility including cleanliness, monitoring and calibration as well as routine maintenance of instruments.
2. Develop/optimize sample preparation protocols as well as analytical methods for both targeted and untargeted approaches and analyses.
3. Establish in vitro / ex vivo / in vivo cancer models for the development of cancer therapeutics.
4. Develop hypothesis-driven projects into research proposals for submission to appropriate funding agencies.
5. Engage with opportunities for other collaborative research projects.
6. Participate in conferences / workshops / other carreer development events to stay current on the field including technologies involved.
7. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
A PhD in Biomedical Sciences, Molecular Biology, Pharmacology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Toxicology, Cancer Biology or a related discipline is required for this position. The successful candidate must have a minimum of three years of relevant training / experience and must possess the skills needed to organize and manage all assigned duties.
Preferred Qualifications:
Applicants with prior experience in managing mass spectrometry instrumentation, performing metabolomics analysis and utilizing in vitro / ex vivo / in vivo cancer models and developing/submitting their own research proposals are particularly encouraged to apply.
