Primary Purpose of Position The Research Technician is responsible for conducting experiments;
collecting, summarizing, and reporting data; maintaining laboratory safety; and providing proper management of the laboratory. Additionally, responsible for the following, but not limited to:
Knowledge-Technical responsibilities:
Synthesize, characterize, and test new organic, inorganic, and hybrid organic-inorganic compounds for organic electronics, catalysis, and other applications.
Utilize air-free handling techniques to work with moisture-sensitive and oxygen-sensitive compounds.
Independently develop and verify synthetic methods for new target compounds.
Test new compounds for new properties including optical and electronic properties and catalytic activity.

Laboratory Care responsibilites:

Maintain laboratory glassware and equipment.
Assist PI in maintaining a well-stocked lab and ordering laboratory supplies in a timely fashion.
Maintain vacuum pumps

  • perform routine oil changes as necessary.

Identify and report infrastructure issues (e.g. broken hood, leaky faucet) to appropriate administrators.
Ensure all safety guidelines are followed strictly at all times by all lab users and maintain a clean and orderly environment.
Work with EHS and PI to develop and disseminate new Safety Procedures for the lab when needed.

Operations-Research Support responsibilities:

Train and supervise new researchers in the lab.
Supervise waste management for the laboratory.
Communicate effectively with laboratory leadership and other staff members.
Supervise moving of lab equipment and materials to Cameron building.
Provide support to other researchers in the laboratory as needed.

Data Collection responsibilities:

Recording all data and results in specified forms (paper and electronic) with accuracy and responsibility and maintain laboratory documentation.
Identify and report variations or discrepancies in the data; organize and prepare data for analyses. Provide PI with preliminary summary of experiments, procedures and tests.
Operate NMR, UV-vis, fluorescence spectroscopy, MALDI, and other analytical techniques.
Operate x-ray diffractometer and solve crystal structures independently. (Employee will be trained

Serve as liaison for external analytical services.

Minimum Education/Experience Required Minimum Qualifications:

Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
