The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) is charged with implementing the state’s public school laws for pre-kindergarten through 12th grade public schools at the direction of the State Superintendent of Public Instruction and State Board of Education. Mixed Methods Research Analyst) for our Golden Leaf Schools Initiative. The Golden LEAF Schools Initiative is a $25 million program funded by the Golden LEAF Foundation with the aim to improve school performance in North Carolina schools through enhancing school culture, leadership, math instruction, pedagogy, and career readiness. Built on the Marzano High Reliability Schools (HRS) model, the initiative provides participating schools with intensive coaching, resources, and support, particularly in rural areas with economic challenges. Twenty middle schools will participate, divided into two cohorts: the Transformative Schools Cohort (TSC), which will receive comprehensive interventions, and the Personalized, Competency-Based Education Cohort (PCBE), focused on instructional transformation. The initiative emphasizes collaboration, aiming to foster long-term educational improvements and workforce development across the state. The Mixed-Methods Researcher leads the evaluation of the Golden LEAF Schools of Innovation initiative, utilizing both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies to assess the program’s impact and inform continuous improvement. This role facilitates the North Carolina (NC) Practitioners Network, a research-practice partnership (RPP) that aims to build research capacity among district and school staff, enabling data-driven decisions to enhance student outcomes. The researcher works with a wide array of stakeholders—including university faculty, district leaders, and school teams—to foster the integration of evidence-based practices across participating districts. This is a field-based position which requires extensive travel in the state to provide instruction, leadership, coaching, and collaboration.

Demonstrated experience presenting complex findings to non-technical audiences and/or translating data.

MANAGEMENT PREFERENCES

Familiarity with school improvement models and frameworks. Proficiency with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau) to present evaluation findings effectively. Experience within North Carolina public schools or similar educational systems. Experience in program evaluations, especially those focusing on educational innovation or school turnaround. Strong written and verbal communication skills for producing comprehensive reports and engaging presentations. Master’s in education, social sciences, public policy, or a related field with strong mixed-methods research training. Experience xperience in conducting mixed-methods research within NC public schools or comparable educational contexts. Demonstrated experience managing large-scale evaluation projects involving both quantitative (e.g., surveys, NCDPI administrative data) and/or qualitative (e.g., interviews, focus groups) research components. Demonstrated experience utilzing qualitative analysis software (e.g., NVivo, Dedoose) for coding and/or interpreting open-ended survey items, classroom observations, interviews, and/or focus group data. Demonstrated experience collaborating with education practitioners (e.g., teachers, school administrators, district leaders), external research organizations (e.g., Marzano Research), and/or philanthropic organizations.
