As a Research Technician for the Bunter Beef Cattle Field lab, you will be apart of supporting agricultural field research. As research programs evolve over time, you may be called upon to do a wide variety of tasks, all related to agricultural research and support. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Assist faculty members in test set-up, implementation of treatments, and collection and recording of data.
Maintain field crops, horticultural crops, and livestock according to research protocol.
Maintain data logs on-field activities, equipment usage and repair, and daily activities.
Operate research equipment and farm equipment, such as tractors, loaders, combines, and specialized research equipment.
Maintain facilities and grounds at the research unit and make minor repairs as needed.
Additionally, you will be working outdoors in conditions of both heat and cold, may be working with field crops, horticultural crops, or livestock, and will be expected to operate agricultural equipment, with or without reasonable accommodation. The validity of the research depends upon the quality of work in the Research Technician position. Other Work/Responsibilities:
- Assist with crop production specifically hay and corn.
- General upkeep and maintenance of overall facility.
- Assist with Bull Test Facility when needed.
Minimum Experience/Education:
Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
Required Qualifications:
Basic familiarity with livestock management and farm equipment (tractors and back hoes) operation and the ability to operate that equipment safely and accurately.
Must be able to lift up to 50lbs on a daily basis.
Ability to read and follow research protocols and pesticide labels.
Ability to effectively communicate in both oral and written forms.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in agriculture.
Experience in livestock and operation of farm equipment or research equipment.
Required license or certification:
A valid driver’s license is required for travel. NC driver’s license is required within 60 days of hire and must be maintained.
A commercial driver’s license will be required within the first 12 months of hire and must be maintained.
