This Research Technician will work in the Wildlife Modeling and Management Research Group directed by Remington Moll in the Department of Natural Resources and the Environment at the UNH Durham Campus. The core functions include leading field work operations and organizing and managing large field research projects. The level of skill required is commensurate with a degree in the natural resources or a related field plus substantial experience in the field. The scope of responsibility is to coordinate with graduate students, research scientists, undergraduate technicians, and project directors to accomplish field research. This position is not essential staff.
Duties/Responsibilities
Designing/implementing field protocols for live animal capture, especially mesocarnivores
Live capture and handling of research animals, especially mesocarnivores
Wilderness and animal tracking in remote conditions
Coordinating land access permission for field research
Coordinating field research teams
Communicating with project partners via email and phone

Minimum Acceptable Education & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in wildlife ecology or closely related field
Two years of field experience relevant to position duties

Required Licenses & Certifications:

Valid driver’s license

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Animal capture and handling
Mesocarnivore (particularly mustelid) ecology
Off road driving, including 4×4 vehicles, snowmobiles, and ATVs
Animal tracking and sign identification
GIS data analysis and organization
Excellent communication skills
Project management

Preferred Qualifications:

Certifications in tracking and wilderness survival
Three or more years of experience conducting terrestrial mammal fieldwork in rugged and remote conditions
