Job Description

Summary This position is located in the Office of the Registrar, United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA), Maritime Administration (MARAD). Responsibilities The Institutional Research Assistant (OA), you will: Identifies the information required to meet project goals and ensures accuracy and validity of results. Gathers necessary data from the Academy’s computerized database or other available records. Establishes and manipulates spreadsheets to develop variables for analysis. Applies appropriate statistical tests and calculations to examine the subject under consideration. Prepares a draft report, including tables and graphs, presenting results and recommendations for discussion and approval. The ideal candidate will have experience using statistical analysis software, databases, spreadsheets, and charts to report data effectively. Requirements Conditions of Employment You must be a U.S.Citizen and eligible for consideration. You must meet specialized experience to qualify. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
SELECTIVE SERVICE:

Applicants selected under delegated examining procedures may be required to successfully complete a one-year probationary period (unless already completed). Qualifications To meet the minimum qualifications for this position, you must meet the specialized experience requirements. To qualify for the GS-08, you must have at least one year of equal or equivalent experience equal to the GS-07, which includes: Experience performing statistical analysis using computer software programs for charting data and producing spreadsheets for accurate reporting.

Understanding of basic research methods and techniques used in institutional research, including both qualitative and quantitative analysis methods. This includes familiarity with data collection methods, survey techniques, and research design processes.

Skill:

Ability to assist in the planning, development, and execution of research projects, and interpret the results in a meaningful way.

Ability:

Ability to organize and synthesize information from various sources and draw conclusions based on data analysis.

Written and Oral Communication Skills:
Knowledge:

Familiarity with academic and research writing standards, including the ability to prepare clear, concise, and well-organized reports, summaries, and documentation.

Skill:

Ability to effectively communicate research findings in both written and verbal formats, ensuring the audience can understand complex data and analysis results.

Ability to present research findings to internal stakeholders in a clear, logical manner and contribute to written documentation and presentations related to research projects. Attention to
