Job Description
The McDevitt Laboratory within the Department of Molecular Pathobiology at New York University invites applications for a full-time Postdoctoral Associate position. Background – Over the past decade, the McDevitt Lab has pioneered the development and clinical validation of platforms that digitize biological information through AI-enhanced sensors. These programmable, miniaturized diagnostic systems are engineered for use across multiple clinical testing areas, with a strong focus on oncology screening applications. Our research has also resulted in innovative microfluidic-based single-cell AI linked analysis modalities for early disease detection. These scalable, lab-on-a-chip tools aim to accelerate the arrival of precision diagnostic care. To advance these transformative tools into clinical practice, we are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Associate. The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary team of cancer biologists, dentists, clinicians, and bioengineers to drive the development, testing, and optimization of AI linked cytology diagnostic platforms. Responsibilities + Develop, validate, and optimize chip-based cytology devices + Conduct advanced cytological measurements using microscopy and image analysis software + Handle and process human clinical samples, ensuring adherence to biosafety protocols + Perform detailed cell-based data analysis, including cytometry and image-based quantification + Work independently and collaboratively to design experiments, analyze data, and prepare manuscripts + Draft peer-reviewed publications, technical reports, and contribute to grant proposals + Participate in translational and entrepreneurial initiatives, based on interest and capabilities NYU offers excellent benefits. In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $65,000 – $70,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.
Required:
+ Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Chemistry, Molecular Biology, Biophysics, Bioengineering, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field + Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills + Excellent written and oral communication skills in English + Demonstrated record of research productivity through publications or patents + Ability to work independently and collaboratively within interdisciplinary research teams
Specific Expertise:
+ Extensive direct experience in cytology measurements, including staining, imaging, and quantitative cell analysis + Prior hands-on experience with imaging modalities such as fluorescence microscopy, confocal microscopy, and brightfield microscopy + Proficiency with image processing and analysis tools (e.g., ImageJ, CellProfiler, MATLAB-based analysis) + Direct experience with the collection, stabilization, handling, and processing of human clinical samples for cytology-based assays + Familiarity with cell-based data analysis methodologies, including gating strategies, feature extraction, statistical analyses, and machine learning-based classification (preferred) Applicants must submit: + A current CV + A cover letter outlining your statement of interest and relevant experience + A list of at least three professional references (highly recommended) To access the application, please click the “” button located on the right.
