Description Research Technician This position is for the Division of Infectious Diseases within the Department of Pediatrics. This incumbent will support the functioning of the laboratory, including obtaining product quotes, ordering and organizing supplies, basic cell culture experimental work, and basic mouse experimental work. The Freeman lab investigates viral causes of paralysis in children. We primarily study enteroviruses using spinal cord organoids. This position will support the basic functioning of the laboratory, as described. There are also opportunities for independent projects within the mission of the laboratory, based on the applicant’s skills and goals. This position is located at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh in Lawrenceville. PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check, and FBI Criminal Record Check will be required prior to the start of employment. Also, a current TB test will be required as a condition of employment. EEO/AA/M/F/Vets/Disabled. Job Summary Performs a variety of laboratory experiments and procedures. Prepares specimens. Oversees supply management. Operates and properly maintains equipment. Essential Functions Performs a variety of laboratory experiments such as histology, flow cytometry, molecular techniques, gene sequencing, and related technical functions, testing, troubleshooting, and analysis, and may perform microsurgical procedures. Ensures conformity to specifications.
Identifies and prepares specimens.
Oversees supply management: ordering, procurement, tracking estimates, and receiving items.
Operates and maintains applicable laboratory equipment for job functions.
Keeps detailed, accurate, and timely data and log books. Organizes and documents results.
Maintains, calibrates, cleans, and tests sterility of laboratory equipment. Physical Effort Light.
