JOB SUMMARY
Designing, developing, and implementing advanced control systems for power converters across unit-level and system-level architectures. Leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) techniques to enhance the performance, efficiency, and scalability of converter control systems used in applications such as renewable energy systems, smart grids, electric vehicles, and industrial automation. Work closely with faculty, students, visiting scientists and industry partners engaged with Clemson’s MV test facility.

- Design, develop, and implement advanced control systems under uncertainty using high performance computing. This role involves leveraging AI and ML techniques to boost the performance, efficiency, and scalability of control systems in applications like renewable energy, smart grids, electric vehicles, and industrial automation. 30%

- Stay current with the latest trends in AI, ML, and apply emerging techniques to improve control systems for applications relevant to manufacturing. Seek competitive grant funding to utilize the capabilities of the CURI campus and actively pursue publications in peer-reviewed journals. 20%

- Provide oversight, guidance and mentoring to student interns and/or graduate students.
Ensure industry confidentiality, security of equipment and data. Build strong relationships with industry to further research and educational collaboration. Ensure all federal and state safety and environmental regulations and guidelines are followed at all times.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education
- PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, and other related areas Experience
- Proficiency in AI/ML algorithms, particularly as applied to control systems and optimization.
This position will require close collaboration and frequent visits to Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) located in Aiken, SC. Therefore, all qualified candidates must meet the minimum requirement of being a U.S. citizen, which is necessary to meet US Department of Energy security level clearances.

00) Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate’s previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson’s compensation guidelines.
ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL LEVEL
Normal Operations Required to follow emergency facility closure directives, and not normally expected work on-site during emergency situations.
